2019 Denver Memorial Day Murph

19 #HIM got after it this AM to remember those that served our country and paid the ultimate price. Today is to their memory. #TheMurph is a workout that we do on the last monday of every month, but on Memorial Day, it's that much more special. Orginally called "Body Armour" Lt. Michael P Murphy used this crossfit workout as part of his training. First you don a 20 lb weighted vest meant to represent the body armour that is worn during missions. Then while wearing the vest you run 1 mile, complete 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and run another mile.

Reflection:

Psalm 27:3-4  Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.  One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Moleskin:

  • Since we only have 6 spots for pull-ups and 22 people (including the 3 crossfitters that were there) AND 1 hour of time, the timer was set for 1:45, 20 rounds of 5/10/15 pull-ups/push-ups/squats. At first the time seemed like we needed to shorten it, but by the end, I think all were happy to have the extra time.
  • At the beginning there seemed to be extra MC, but that quickly faded into everyone just getting through.
  • Some busting of chops was present between the crossfitters and the F3'ers regarding full complete reps of push-ups and squats. Squats so high that even Snoop Dogg couldn't get higher than…vs kipping and butterfly pull-ups vs strict pull-ups… can you really take credit for butterfly pull-ups as a pull-up? All joking aside, we had fun.
  • Cheetah biked in to the fun
  • Tommy Lee ran a few miles in
  • Spork and Retread ran a  few miles beforehand
  • YHC and Abrams wore a 20 lb vest
  • Metrodog and Ziploc were a couple minutes late, but caught up.
  • All got stronger
