Typically, this type of Saturday at The Glen, what with it being Thanksgiving week, AND this AO is tucked neatly in the northern part of southern central North Carolina, one would imagine that a friendly game of gridiron would be the call. Cool crisp fall weather and maybe 40-50 degrees at sunrise, slight dew on the well manicured baseball and soccer pitches, and temps escalating quickly as the sun greets the Pax during the warm up portion of the Q. Yes, this would be the norm for a day like today. Friday was 'that' day, but this would be Saturday, and what a difference a day makes. Then came the rains, and the wind, and the falling temps, and the worry about field conditions, pulled groins, throwing a back out, and other potential IR causing calamities to a Pax that has more 'Respects' then a F3 anniversary convergence hosted in it's motherland down there in the labyrinth of Charlotte's publically accessible parks and schools AO system. Top this with early, EARLY, calls on Slack to audible the football call to something a little less fraught with a potential Alex Smith situation, and you have a feverish visit to YHC's garage, quickly grabbing any apparati one could muster for the purpose of pain infliction. A few dumbells, some rope, and that would have to do. Let's see how this audible played out, hopefully better than the Seahawk's call for a quick slant vs. the Patriots in the fabled seminal play of Super Bowl XLIX.
Warm Ups: Mozy from upper snack stand to the notorious Crack Den for (IC) SSH 20, IST 15, Incline Mountain Climbers (IMC's) 15, CP's 10, SDS 15, Hillbillies 10. Mozy back up to parking lot for Butt Kickers, High Knees, R/L karoke prior to heading to the upper parking lot to slalom hop the parking curbs JUST below the upper baseball field, back to the upper 'snack den'………Den of Pain if you will.
The Thang: Stations. Partner up. Five (5) rounds of pain, with a 'recovery' lap after each round. Rounds 1-3 had a pace setter of 30, 40, then 50 Rope Whips per arm. WHILE the roper was whipping, his partner planked. Station 2-KB swings with partner planking. Station 3- LBC's, both partners rep while roper whips. Station 4-Upright or Bent Over Rows. Station 5-Skull Crushers, both rep during rope whipping. During sets 4-5, the LBC's went to Low Flutters, the Rows went to Mil Presses, and the Skull Crushers went to curls, and Rope Whips went back down to 40, then 30 for sets 4 and 5 repsectively. Mozy back up to park entrance for…
Mary: Toy Soldiers 20 IC. Recover, recover.
Moleskine:
-FNG is Pig Iron, but he's not registered on the WS yet.
-War Daddy was Soul Glo, War Baby was Pig Iron.
-YHC has since learned, via the 'Hello Kitty' channel and Snapchate that 'some' AO's in Huntersville and Davidson were cancelled due to 'inclement' weather……..WHAT??!!
-Apehangers was impressive….at 6'5", he COULDN't do the mil presses without modifying or hitting the ceiling, wow.
While ultimate football would have been awesome, it would certainly have been rife with problems. Therefore this ad hoc Q served to keep us 'somewhat' dry, work each muscle group, test the limits, bestow upon us a little fatigue, and provide commraderie, all within a semi-dry 15'x25' pavilion….isn't that the purpose of it all?
-The 'rope whips'–each Pax member had his own cadence, his own stroke, his own technique, but all were impressive in setting the pace….well done Gents!!!
-It was wet…very. Even during the 'quick' Mary, we got soaked and did the COT in record time, then we bravely placed our tails between our legs and scurried off to Panera for Coffeeteria.
-Gents, it's an honor and a priviledge to lead y'all. Thanks for showing up!
-The Glen needs a Master Q for 2019, please contact YHC if interested, or someone will be voluntold:-0
