Hopewell High School has been gracious to allow us to use their Thunder Valley Stadium for a 9-11 stair climb! They are also inviting students, staff and parents to join in.
Start climbing at 5:30 am and go until you are finished climbing.
Wear a ruck. Carry a KB, Cinder Block or rock. Or, just climb those stairs! Choose your level:
The Top of the Tower = 110 floors = 2200 steps or 9 full bleachers+1 more flight (represents top floor of the twin towers)
The Level of Honor = 78 floors = 1560 steps or 6 ½ full bleachers (represents the highest floor the firefighters made on 9/11)
The Level of Memorial = 343 steps or 1 full bleacher+3.5 more flights (represents the number of FF casualties on 9/11)
ABCD (Above and Beyond the Call of Duty) = Complete your goal and keep climbing with others until they are complete
No Person Left Behind = Total number of steps predetermined and SHARED by a group
*********************************
Stair-climb starts at the bottom of the bleachers on the far right (As you are facing up the bleachers). Once at the top, turn around and go back down the same set of stairs on the other side of the handrail. Proceed to the next set of stairs and repeat. Continue climbing and descending until you are at the last set of stairs, then return to the first set of stairs (stay to the right). There are 8 sets of 30 stairs in the bleachers. Therefore, each time you complete an entire set of bleachers = 240 steps.
Do not skip stairs. Step on every one. Stay on the right of the handrail. Do not pass on the stairs. Only pass others while you are on the track or if they permit you to pass at the top or bottom of a set of stairs.
There will be a few firehose bundles to carry just like the firefighters use in a high-rise operation if you want an extra challenge. Carry it for one flight or several and pass it off to another that is up for the challenge.
