Turnpike’s Neighborbhood Tour

13 PAX joined YHC for a VQ where we explored the Carrington Ridge neighborhood across the street from The Fallout.  Three PAX also completed a ~2.75 mile ruck starting at 04:45:  Jedi, TBone, and 66.

Moleskin

Probably not smart to start a VQ with obscure exercises like Happy Jacks and the Booyah! Merkin, but thanks for everyone's patience!  There's some sentimental back story type stuff to say, apologies for the rambing:

  1. I’m so thankful for F3.  Can’t say that enough.
  2. YHC first encountered a group of F3 men on a Saturday morning, believe it was around spring of 2014 but could be mistaken.  This is all coming back to me long after the fact and I’m trying to piece it together for this BB.  I distinctly remember 9 Lives there.  Everyone was very friendly, and they even asked if I would join them!  Having just finished a long run that morning, YHC humbly declined but learned F3 met every Saturday at The Fallout / Excelsior / Estate.  I remember wanting to try it the following Saturday, but something came up.  Ditto for the Saturday after that, and then I must have forgot about it.  I deeply regret all the lost time that I could have been a part of F3.  All I remember from watching them that day was some exercises on Carrington Ridge near the Beatties Ford entrance (where I was asked to join in), and later some Indian Runs up the back side of the neighborhood.  It looked like a ton of fun, so I wanted the first part of my VQ to imitate that…let’s call it lost opportunity.  Needless to say, when Lawn Dart and Rocket told me about F3 on Aug 23, 2015, YHC did not hesitate to show up at Fallout on 25-Aug.  Very sad about the missed opportunity yet at the same time thankful for the second chance.
  3. My first post was Big Bird’s “Assault on Sesame Street Hill” and YHC wanted to pay homage to that workout.  Hence today's laps around the track featured a few of the things I encountered that first F3 workout.  It was the closest YHC came to throwing up since high school basketball practice.  In short, “Assault on Sesame Street Hill” was awesome!  Here’s the link for nostalgic purposes: http://f3nation.com/2015/08/25/assault-on-sesame-street-hill/
  4. At the risk of sounding corny, YHC would like to thank all the men who have Q’d workouts I’ve attended.  You may not have noticed me; I’m never the fastest and don’t mumble chatter much or at all.  But please know how appreciative I am of your leadership and dedication to F3.  A “thank you” hardly seems enough here, but here’s a shout out in “day of the week order” to all who have Q’d my workouts by location:

Mon-Titan:    IKEA, Tantrum (6 times a Q for me! Thank you brother.), Black Eyed Pea, Jolly Roger

Tue-Fallout:    Big Bird, Landshark, Kumquat, 9 Lives, Frogger, 66 (4 times a Q for me!), Snake Eyes, Hasselhoff, Black Eyed Pea (Q’d at multiple locations, thank you!), Stray

Wed-Mad Scientist:    Free Pass, Frogger (Q’d at multiple locations, thank you!), Etch-a-Sketch, The Mailman, Mini Me, Jolly Roger (Q’d at multiple locations, thank you!), Scrappy, Drive Thru, The Count, Schneider, Skipper-Gnarly Goat-and-Gump on the day before Thanksgiving, Fenway, Two Buck Chuck

Wed-Night Ranger:    Scrappy (Thanks for Q’ing at multiple workouts and convincing me to finally get on Twitter!)

Thu-Samson:    Friday, Mr. Burns, Ditka

Fri-Odyssey:    Mortimer

Sat-Excelsior:    Jolly Roger, Black Eyed Pea

Sat-Estate:    Jolly Roger, The Professor

  1. First of all, look at that list!  What an awesome group of F3 men.  And special thank you to the Site HQs at all of my favorite locations.  I will eventually check out other AOs, but for now feel a very strong pull to the AOs listed above.  Can’t really explain why, I just do.
  2. Second, want to thank not only the Qs but all the PAX as well that have encouraged and worked with me.  Obviously too many to list…but I appreciate every Backblast and paste the URL into my GarminConnect account.  I hope to connect with more F3 folks there…my username is simply PaulOldakowski.
  1. Thank you to everyone who showed up for YHC’s VQ.  It was an honor.  I feel blessed to be able to add my name to the awesome list of Qs above and many other F3 Qs that I haven’t encountered yet.  Special thanks to PAX like Jaws and Jedi who don't frequent The Fallout often but came out anyway to lend support.
  2. I hope today’s workout wasn’t too easy or too run-heavy.  I knew I’d be nervous and wanted to go with my strengths.
  3. Thank you 66 for the opportunity to Q today.  The Fallout is awesome and you’re a huge part of the reason why.
  4. Thank you Big Bird for that nearly vomit-inducing workout on Aug 25!  It was very creative and it drew me back the next week despite the difficulty.  And thanks for closing us out today with a wonderful prayer.
  5. Thank you to 9 Lives for inviting me to join your workout on that Saturday morning many months ago.  I really wish I jumped in then…but perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be.  From the lexicon page, you almost pulled a BILLY ZANE:  “A successful EH delivered mid-Workout to a Sad Clown bystander”.  That simple act of asking me to join…means so much.
  6. Thank you to Lawn Dart and Rocket for RE-introducing me to F3 in August.  It has made such a difference in my life.  To this day, the workouts where we’re all at Fallout, or all CLOWN-CAR it to Mad Scientist, are still my favorite.  Thanks for looking past my obvious scrawny-ness and introducing me to something so awesome.
  7. Somewhere out there is another scrawny runner-only-type-dude who would love F3.  Let us find him and invite him to a workout!
  8. I’m so thankful for F3.

Aye brothers!
