Just Like OLD Times at the Viking

11 men posted on a beautiful morning. No wait, it wasn’t beautiful? Apparently some men complain even when it’s not raining and the temp is above freezing in Jan. I tell you what, there is just no pleasing some people. Any how, we were dry and we weren’t frigid so we moved towards fun.

Our adventure started with a slow mosey past where the Viking typically enjoys the warm-o-rama and down to the end of the park. “Awful lotta running” was mentioned no less than 18x. Yes, we averaged more than 1.5 mumble chatter comments per man over the course of 45mins. Given the PAX list above, it is not a surprise. Caboose also notified me that the PAX may be disgruntled since we didn’t start “how they normally do out here”. My apologies, Stromboli did not smoke signal the blueprint on Viking AO execution to me prior to the event.

Upon arrival at the back/bottom of the park we began to move, stretch and shake in different ways. I’m crossing all my digits while I say this, the form across the board was ON POINT!

Not wanting to disappoint the crowd, we quickly moved to the local rock pile and traveled with a chosen boulder (or pebble in most cases) about 50yds down the ramp. After getting our mumble chatter quota back to normal we began a series of lifts in cadence. We even snuck in a few WWII sit-ups with rocks. This is not a difficult exercise done in cadence, but as a group we turned it into rocket science.

After we felt rather primed, we moved to the bottom of the ramp for a modified ladder, or one-sided step stool. 10- plank jacks at the top and at the bottom, 10 burpees. We reduced the burpees by 2, each time back down, until complete. I can’t remember who finished this portion first but I know for sure it wasn’t Kingfish, as he took multiple rest breaks to increase the mumble chatter average. To his credit it was well worth it!

We gathered back at the rocks we left behind, knocked out another few spot-on-form lifts and then returned them to the pile. Slow mosey up the ramp and then quadraphilia to the top of the access road, approx. 200yds. Slow mosey from there around to the park benches for some step-ups and incline ‘Mericans in cadence.  We finished up there with some SLOW, DEEP squats. Absolutely no additional comments were made…

Finally, so that I didn’t completely lose the crowd, we visited the area that the Viking AO typically starts from. Given the mood and morning topic of choice, we all gathered closely and completed the infamous hip-thruster (glute bridge) and pickle pounder. After Carpetbagger took us through an alternative life adventure we resumed our mosey back to the launch point for some crunchy frog, ST-‘Merican, dying cockroach and CB’s favorite the J-lo.

During my first year of F3, I frequented this AO many times. I miss it and I miss the group that is out there. If you are reading this and have not experienced the OG F3 LKN clown-car, do yourself a favor and find those guys. Your workout will never be the same.

  • The best part about this morning was the mumble chatter. It came from every angle and there was no topic off the table.
  • Strong effort by all Men in attendance. Not an ounce of quit in any of the guys.
  • Final note- if you need the definition of “old man strong” visit the Viking. Oh and they are funny but most stories can’t be repeated.
