An even number of 8 of the Quarry’s finest made it out on a beautiful May morning to participate in a Tag Team workout.  Though this may be difficult to fully comprehend if you were not there in person to both witness and experience it, what happened was even worse than it sounds.

The Thang

Mosey to back parking lot. Grab a partner. Choose wisely. All the following exercises performed with a partner. While it’s fairly difficult to describe in words just what exercises were performed, you may need to watch the bootleg video of the workout to really appreciate it. Most of these were reps of 10 single count.

  • Partner assisted pull-ups. Partners supports legs while other one pulling up to bar

  • One partner planks on arms, other one does decline mercans with feet on partners back

  • Partner squat – one arm connected as go down and up

  • One partner does high plank, other one jumps over partner and crawls/shimmies under arms of planker

  • One partner on ground with legs out in front and arms out parallel to sides (boat pose). Other one jumps over outstretched arms and does a burpee and then jumps back for another burpee

  • Wheelbarrow 20 yards

  • Partner overhead press. One partner sits with arms overhead. Other partner behind provides resistance when other pushes hands up in shoulder press, and also presses hands back down

  • Partners face each other. Mercan down then shuffle hands and legs to right in tandem. Mercan down then shuffle to left.

  • One partner on sixes in sit-up position, other partner on top puts hands on partner knees for dips while other does sit-ups. Option to have guy on top do an incline mercan with hands on partners knees declined due to falling outside Pax’s moral compass. Oktoberfest still felt the need to demonstrate.

  • Partner pull. One partner on ground with arm connected to guy standing. Help pull partner up and other goes to ground after first gets up. Repeato

  • Face each other planking. High five and leg up at same time

  • Partner lunge. Connect hands. One lunge forward while other lunge back, then switch legs

  • Legs face each other. Do leg lift circles in tandem with partner.Do clockwise and counterclockwise circles

  • Partners line up with backs to each other. Lock arms and do a squat up and down

  • Partner lunge.Front guy stands on one leg, back guy holds one leg. Front guy does lunge. Switch legs and partners

  • Ankle throwdowns

  • Legs face each other. Do leg lifts with one partner wide and one partner narrow. Do clockwise and counterclockwise

  • Plank with knee pulse, alternating leg lift and mercans, and then more knee pulses, leg lifts, mercans and planking

Moleskine

  • Uhh, what the hell just happened

  • May need to rethink the whole "let's try and do something different" mantra for a while

  • Morning dew on the Quarry field made it a bit soggy for some of these exercises

  • Grip may have sacrificed some street cred with the football players working out on the field who witnessed this demonstration

  • We aborted a couple exercises that sounded much better on paper (another partner pull, one legged resistance, and cross arm resistance)

  • Mumblechatter overheard from Pax “Who was leading on the partner lunges; Broke Back Quarry; I was too focused trying to close my eyes to do the exercise correctly; We need a safe word for these kind of workouts”

  • It was a “two shower” kinda morning

  • Although this was bad, it was certainly not as bad as what Oktoberfest did in high school one time (allegedly it was just one time)

  • Hard to believe Q had 6-8 other partner exercises we ran out of time to try….

  • Overheard being sung on walk back to parking lot "I said please, please understand…I'm in love with another man” by Heart.Don’t ask, don’t tell

  • While some of these may rightfully never be performed again, some actually may come around again
