Mustang July Murph

Event Date

Jul 31, 2017

12 Mighty Mustangers including 1 FNG that was drug out of the fartsack by 2 family members from out of town to take on #TheMurph. FNG-1 is actually "2 fingers" (I didn't ask…), FNG-2 is actually "True North", both from New Bern (I think) FNG-3 is from Greenville SC? and is hence forth named "No Doze" No Doze is in Sleep Medicine.  Our 3 visitors came in Clown Car Style.  YHC was assuming they were other LKN PAX completing the Basin Challenge, but alas, they are here for a little family reunion, apparently meeting somewhere in the middle.  Welcome to LKN Brothers from Other Mothers!

Today probably seemed different for our OOT PAX.  Today was Murph Day.  No time for a warm-up, just hit the ground running the first mile.  But already 2-3 minutes ahead of us was Hefty with his 30 lb ruck sack just a gettin' it. Q set the timer for 20 rounds of 1:15 to be our guide.  Want 10 rounds of 10-20-30…great, start every odd round.  Otherwise 20 rounds of 5-10-15 of pull-ups, 'mericans, squats. Then run another mile back.

Reflection
Today's reflection is similar to Closers from Saturday.  I've heard of 3 people in the last month that are 1 to 2 degrees of separation from me that have either suffered from depression and/or taken their own life. And thought I'd share some resources. First up is a little bit of the word…

Psalm 40:1-3  "I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our Gog. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord"

Recognizing signs of depression in others and even yourself can help someone out of a dark place.  Read-up on some of the signs and do some googling because it's much more common that I thought. http://guidedoc.com/6-early-signs-of-depression

Some depression statistics… http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/20/depression-statistics_n_6480412.html

I also read something like 1 in 8 men will experience depression at some point in their adult life.  Apparently 50% do NOT seek help.  And African American males, only 10% seek help.
