Scrawny Guy Mini Murph Surprise at Fission

The rain held off and the temperatures were mild, in the mid 40s.  11 PAX joined YHC despite a #PB that promised little creativity.  Here is what went down at Fission today:

0500:  Big Montana, Mayhem, and Titan joined YHC for a tour of the hood.  Shamelessly, YHC asked if we could go to J.V. Washam Elementary to scope out pull-up bars.  Don't think anyone suspected anything yet?  There was the usual banter with the Java crowd, who looked like they were about to do some WARM-O-RAMA.  We covered 2.4 miles on The Standard.

0530:

Disclaimer given.

WARM-O-RAMA:

Run ~0.75 miles to J.V. Washam Elementary.

The "Scrawny Guy Mini Murph Surprise" Thing: *

* Except we didn't call it that at first.  We did:

  • Pull-ups x 5 OYO (YHC is scrawny, apologies)
  • Mericans x 10 IC (at this point the PAX realized it was Murph-ish)
  • Squats x 15 IC
  • Burpees x 5 OYO (Overheard:  I'd rather do the pull-ups!)
  • Repeato.

"Scrawny guy upper body break interlude #1":

  • Low Flutters x 25 IC

Then again:

  • Pull-ups x 5 OYO
  • Mericans x 10 IC
  • Squats x 15 IC
  • Burpees x 5 OYO
  • Repeato.

"Scrawny guy upper body break interlude #2":

  • LBCs x 25 IC

At this point, YHC was open to negotiating, provided PAX step up and agree to Q for my friend Titan.  Omega was the first to volunteer!  So the next set, we did away with Squats:

  • Pull-ups x 5 OYO
  • Mericans x 10 IC
  • Burpees x 5 OYO
  • Repeato.

"Scrawny guy upper body break interlude #3":

  • WWII sit-ups x 15 IC

Any other volunteers?  Yes, Bama!  The next set was even lighter:

  • Pull-ups x 5 OYO
  • Burpees x 5 OYO
  • Repeato.

Having already conceded in his mind that this was a "Scrawny guy Mini Murph", YHC saw no harm in skipping the last 2 sets entirely.  However, after running back to the AO, we did have ample time for Mary.

Mary:

  • Elbow plank.  Someone mentioned "3 minutes".  YHC:  "Well, funny you say that, actually…can we get a THIRD Q volunteer"?  Yes, Mayhem steps up!  We only planked for ~30 seconds.
  • Mason Twist x 25 IC
  • Sprint 1/2 of the parking lot
  • Man Maker Elbow Plank x 10 IC
  • Sprint 3/4 of the parking lot
  • Low Flutters x 25 IC
  • LBCs x 35 IC

Recover, recover.  According to Strava, we covered 1.9 miles at a nice brisk pace.

Moleskin:

  1. We prayed for Landline's mother in law, who recently had a nasty fall.
  2. We also prayed for a friend of Beefcake's named Rosie, who was recently diagnosed with Cancer.
  3. We gave thanks for a 10 year Cancer-Free prognosis for Mayhem's sister Sue.
  4. Speaking of Mayhem, he said he has a long list of possible 2018 CSAUP events.  If you are interested in doing something completely stupid and utterly pointless this year, Mayhem's arm can probably be twisted easily.
  5. The Fission crew is solid as usual.  More respects (Jersey Boy, Dr. Suess, and Bama) than hates (Big Montana and YHC).
  6. Speaking of Bama, someone joked that he hit "respect" age and has been posting less.  Well, thanks Bama for stepping up to Q at this AO!  It will certainly be more creative than today's workout buddy.
  7. Jersey Boy didn't let a lack of pull up bars get in his way, he simply used the side of a slide.  Aye!  Also, Jersey Boy is now the MQ over at Isotope on Saturdays.  Congrats on that buddy and thanks for taking it on.
  8. As we were leaving the AO, Titan was kind enough to hang back for some late arrivers.  Is that Olive with the beard?  No…that's…Hat Trick and also Ninja Turtle!  Nice running gents, you caught up to us before we even completed the first round.  You guys have wheels.
  9. Omega, you sure are fast for someone who claims 5 miles is your longest ever run!  Thanks for volunteering for a Q at Fission.
  10. Big Montana, it's been awesome to see you at several AOs recently.  Appreciate the Standard today and the 2nd F.  Big Montana also claimed to appreciate the "scrawny guy interludes"…but…you are not scrawny Sir!  You don't know the pain, the struggle is real.  The struggle is real.
  11. Hollywood, thank you for the recent follow on Twitter.  Hope to catch up more buddy!  I realize this is shameless…but…it looks like you haven't Q'd at Fission in a while?  Just looking at the Twitter feed is all, don't mind my snooping Sir!
  12. I didn't hear much mumble chatter from Dr. Suess or Beefcake, admittedly.  Suspect you were both just working hard, and kindly putting up with all the scrawny guy audibles.  #Beasts
  13. Thank you Titan for the opportunity to Q, for taking on the role of MQ, and for collecting the 6 today.  Appreciate all it buddy.  Check out Titan at The General tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone.
