With the AO to AO ruck only hours away, the night before fun run text went something like:
Skipper: I'm tapering
Vortex: No you are not
Skipper: But the ruck is tomm
Vortex: We'll keep it taper pace
Skipper: No you will not
Vortex: I promise
0525: Skipper arrives and exchanges hellos with Vortex and soon Cheetah strolls in, and then Goodwrench drives-in. Great, all speed demons. Dandelion is DR helping family, so we actually leave on time for a change.
I gave Vortex the keys last night hoping he'd draw-up a nice, flat(ish), slower-paced jog around town. Instead we come out hot and then it only escalated from there. AND he took us into the hilliest neighborhood around here. We end up doing the Blades through East Covington segment back to the AO for just over 5 miles.
The last mile was NOT fun and NOT taper pace. Cheetah layed down impressive cover fire the whole time. Glad I was in front of him. No directions were given in Eastwind Cove, and Cheetah almost got lost had it not been for me directing him. Goodwrench tip-tapped along side of us probably at 35% effort to keep up and caught us up on his son's progress with walking and such. He's like a Gas/Hybrid car, he can just glide at an 8 minute pace on his reserves and then engages the gas engine when needed. SMH.
We said continued prayers for Vortex's vest, and to Dandelion for his trip to MO and back. Prayers out as well to all the men doing the AO to AO ruck tonight.
Oh, and Spork told me if I did a backblast for Fridays that he'd post EVERY Friday. That was early-March. We miss you buddy, see you soon.
