Monday morning miles & merkins

AO

YHC rolled into Birkdale Village with a couple minutes to spare only to find 2 pax already stretching for the morning’s workout. The group waited an extra minute then headed out toward the greenway.

After running ~1 mile, the group stopped for the following:

  • Carrot puller x 10 IC
  • IST x 10 IC
  • Merkin x 20 IC
  • Low flutter x 20 IC

After another mile, the group stopped for merkins x 10 IC, found some rocks, and completed the following:

  • Curl x 10 IC
  • Chest press x 10 IC
  • Skull crusher x 10 IC

What did we do after that? We ran another mile after that. Then we stopped to complete the following:

  • Merkin x 10 IC
  • Low flutter x 20 IC

We made it another quarter mile and YHC had a hankerin’ for some more merkins, so we stopped and did another set of 10 IC.

We ended where we started, only to find Don Ho stretching in the Bdale “grass” and asking where we had been. He arrived right after we departed for the greenway, and spent ~30 minutes trying to find us. The good news was he got roughly the same mileage in as the group during his search. The bad news was our routes covered all of Birkdale/greenway without intersecting, per Strava.

YHC didn’t want DH to feel left out, so we finished w/ a mini-Mary o’ merkins x 20 IC.

Discussion:

The group discussed King Solomon and how his heart turned away from the Lord as he turned toward false gods. We discussed the idols we face in modern day (eg material stuff, status, ego, validation) and hit a lot of good points YHC had not even considered. Idolatry can often present itself in things that we see are initially good. However, if not kept in balance, these things can ultimately turn us away from God as did happen to Solomon.

Thank you Dingo for the opportunity to lead today's discussion. Thanks also to the men for sharing experiences, insight, and advice. There is no better way to start the week.
