Mixed Eggs at Emmaus

9 hard chargers met in the wee hours of Friday morning to hit all 3 Fs before 6:15. Their story went something like this:

-Several minutes of dynamic warmup (ie standing around waiting for GPS to lock in)

-The route: The Emmaus greenway loop with a twist, as promised by YHC. The pax were fooled, however, when each finally realized it was just the regular ole Emmaus greenway loop. So that, in and of itself, was the twist…? For all of the BRR vets on the run, there seemed to be an inordinate amount of elevation complaints on the relatively flat greenway (YHC included).

On return to the AO, the pax were joined by the MQ and circled up before heading over to the Bux for the second act of Emmaus.

Discussion topics included:

-A checkup on any annual 2018 goals the pax may be working on. Or did YHC really just want to rub in the fact he was reading the Bible every day and others *cough* BILLY BOB *cough* were not?

-How and when do we discuss tragic news stories with young kids? Where does the balance lie between protecting them and preparing them? Are we fathers who our kids trust enough to discuss anything they see or hear? Are there any positives we can look to when tragic events occur? Is there a gap between what children (or adults even) perceive to be the truth and the actual truth in the news?

Also…how many times will Big Montana mention Mr. Rogers?

Moleskine:

-A big thanks to the entire group today. The run was great and the discussion was even better. I selfishly raised the second discussion topic as it is something I had been contemplating the past 2-3 weeks. I knew the group would provide valuable perspective and insight.

-Thanks to the Goatbusters for hanging out after their run!

-I enjoyed meeting and running with you today, Mr. Holland. Still wrapping my head around why your wife had that concert because school was closed…!

-The opportunity to lead this fine group this morning was greatly appreciated, Jedi. Great to see you today and pray for continued healing.

-Like Mr. Rogers said, in times of tragedy or disaster, look for the helpers. There will always be people out there willing to help. As I brace for Hurricane Florence this weekend, I hope to keep this idea in mind. Some pax are already ahead of the curve, considering how they will be able to help when needed in the upcoming days and weeks. I am grateful to them for setting the example for all of us in the LKN community.

BM out!
