First a warm welcome to Hanz, a 16 year old foreign exchange student living with Code Blue and his family. It was his second post and we wanted to give him a name he'll be proud to take back with him. We settled on "Cheer Wine", nice. T-Claps to Code Blue for being such a #HIM.
Speaking of #HIMs, it was an honor to lead a workout on Veteran's Day (Observed) with 2 gents who served in our great Navy: Gnarly Goat and Bouncey House. Afterwards at coffeeteria, we had Boarhog as well and Axel who served in the Marines. Apologies if I left anyone out from coffeeteria.
The Berean story went something like this:
0445: Dingo and Billy Bob for some speedy miles. Gents, you are getting fast!
Everyone else did:
WARM-O-RAMA:
- Mosey to the movie theater parking lot with some high knees. Disclaimer given.
- SSH, IST, Soybean Farmers, and Slow Deep Squats x 15 IC
- Sideways plank walk around an island divider which was the perfect distance to warm up our cores.
The Rock Thing:
Mosey over to the rock pile which is past the tennis courts. Everyone grabbled 1 "traveling / small" rock and 1 big rock. Partner up.
- Partner 1 holds big rock overhead, partner 2 runs to first light post and back.
- Flip flop and repeato, but for the second iteration the runner ran with his small rock.
- Partner 1 does bent over rock rows AMRAP while partner 2 runs.
- Flip flop.
- Partner 1 holds elbow plank while partner 2 runs.
- Flip flop and repeato, but for the second iteration the small rock was placed on the planker's back.
- Partner 1: Slow deep squats AMRAP with big rock. Partner 2: Runs.
- Flip flop and repeato, but this time holding 2 rocks; 1 big and 1 little.
- Flip flop and repeato a 3rd time, but this time holding both big rocks.
Quick "dora" using a shortened run:
- 50 Mericans per team.
- 50 slow deep rock squats per team.
Return rocks and mosey to cars for Mary. We were joined by Billy Bob and Dingo for this.
Mary:
- LBCs x 51 IC.
Recover, recover. Surprisingly, we covered 2.7 miles according to Strava.
Then at 5:30 the 2nd F discussion was about: 2nd F things! We were joined by Dry Rub at this point.
We discussed, among other things:
- A desire to have more frequent F3 Dads workouts, perhaps monthly at rotating AOs. YHC has already discussed with 2nd F Q Turncoat, and we agreed this sort of straddles the line a bit between 1st F Q (YHC) and 2nd F Q. More to come on this.
- A standing, perhaps monthly, Saturday night meetup at a place TBD. It would be for PAX and family. Old Town Public House in Cornelius was mentioned as a possibility.
- The idea for both the F3 Dads workout and monthly meetups would be to have them consistently. I.E. "the first Saturday" of every month, for example.
- We discussed night workouts in our region. Turbo, for example, was unaware we have workouts as follows: Tuesday and Thursday nights in Davidson called "Sweatshop", and Wednesday night at Discovery Place Kids called "Night Ranger". It would be nice to get PAX out more often for those.
It was a nice, informal discussion overall.
Moleskin:
- Welcome again to "Cheer Wine" and T-Claps again to Code Blue for taking in a foreign exchange student.
- Thank you for your service Gnarly Goat and Bouncey House. Aye! Workouts are also more fun with your mumblechatterings.
- Glad you found us Eeyore, and didn't accidently follow Dingo and Billy Bob on their run. That would have been painful bro!
- Good to catch up with you Turbo and hope to post with you more often. We hope you give in and get on The Twitter and The Slack. : )
- Good catching up Dry Rub and glad to hear the new gig is working out nicely for you.
- Thank you Big Montana for the opportunity to lead these men, and for taking on the MQ role at The Berean. Such an awesome AO. Big Montana mentioned there will be more 2nd / 3rd F centered around St. Paul in the upcoming weeks and months.
On a personal note, YHC is apparently not young and spry anymore. Took my 2.0 and 2.1 to "Defy Gravity" on Monday afternoon. For a while, things were going quite well. Humbly, I was dominating all the upper body obstacle course things they had. Dodge Ball, more domination. No I didn't throw the ball at any little kids, I was more like a "human shield" providing cover for my team to usually win. Ran up the "short" warped wall, with ease. So after all that, I eyed up the "long" warped wall, thinking "I got this!". Well, I didn't get to the top…and it's a looooong way down. Hurt my back a bit with that stupid stunt. Just a painful reminder that I'm 40…not 25.
No worries though. Although this was supposed to be "Q somewhere new" week, my brothers have already helped out. Big Mean reached out already about seeing him if I needed to. Gnarly Goat was kind enough to Q at PAINinsula today, and Don Ho graciously agreed to pinch hit for me at Hollywood on Wednesday. Appreciate you gents!
