Four amateur strongmen cake down to Muscle Beach to Get. Pumped. Up. in the ways of Magnús Ver Magnússon, an Icelandic former powerlifter and strongman competitor.

Front skip, butt kicks, high knees, karaoka x2, SSH, TS and Cherry Pickers

The Thang:

Nine weight stations as follows. Do 12 reps at each station

  • Bench – 35lb kettle overhead extensions and diamond press

  • Bent over row – 60lb sack

  • 777 LLL curls w/ 15lb dumbbells. Hold right arm 90 degrees while left arm does 7 reps/curls. Then hold left arm 90 degrees while right arm does 7 reps. Then go down to 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 rep and then 7 curls at end with both arms

  • Upright row – 35lb kettle bell

  • Front and side raises – 12lb dumbbells

  • Goblet Squats – 45lb kettle

  • Skull crusher single hand – 20lb kettles

  • Shoulder shrugs – 30lb kettles

  • One arm kettle swings – 20lb dumbbell

In between stations we did the following

  • Burpees x5 (round 1)

  • Mercans x5 (round 2)

  • CDD x10 (round 3)

After each round we took two laps around the boat launch parking lot

  • There was an OSHA incident today where a person assumed the flat bench was actually flat, but it quickly gave way to a decline bench while weights were in hand. Thankfully there were no injuries or threats of litigation to report

  • How far did you run from your house from muscle beach? About 7 miles with some burpees thrown in

  • Water is calling and we must answer the call…

  • We heard the infamous song Liar on the portable speaker this morning.  It was not actually a lie, more like a failure to disclose

  • Burpees in between reps can really reduce the mumblechatter
