YHC knew it might be a challenge to recruit pax today with Stapler at BRP and The Force celebrating a birthday Q at Estate. I thought a creative approach to the workout might draw in numbers and adjusted the workout accordingly for about a dozen. When only 6 others appeared in the gloom, I knew we might have our hands full.
I showed up at 0600 to set up the course. The plan I had drawn out was an 18-hole course using cinder blocks for “holes”. Pax would take turns throwing a frisbee toward each hole. I tested the first couple holes and found them to generally be par 3s. For the real deal, any throw that did not land within a stride of the block would result in ascending burpees (1 for 1st throw, 2 for 2nd, etc). Once we arrived at a block, we would complete a couple of exercises and throw for the next hole. Oh, and on top of all that, we had to take each block with us as we traversed the course. Turns out the plan may have been a bit agressive for a 1-hour workout so some modifications were made as we went.

THANG COLOR COMMENTARY
After listening to the pax make fun of my freebie frisbee, I took the first hole to show the distrustful men how easy the course was. Three throws got us mostly to the brick by the fountain. That amounted to 6 total burpees in route followed by two CoP-style exercises. Crimson grabbed the block and Belle teed off for hole 2.
The first two holes were fairly straight-forward, but then Ultraman got the short straw for hole 3 which was in the meditation garden along a narrow, pebbled path. Lots of burpees ensued as we struggled to get the frisbee to the block.
Twister was next up for hole 4 which returned along the pathway back the parking lot. On his 2nd toss, he thought he could clear the crepe myrtles but instead the frisbee took an errant turn and landed on top of some honeysuckle atop an awning. The pax may have thought it was “game over” but as I contemplated grabbing a 2nd frisbee, Ultraman performed an admirable pull-up to try to grab the disc. Knockout’s FNG was in the process of climbing an adjacent tree when Crimson found a piece of lumber that allowed him to push the frisbee from its perch. We were back in business.
It was clear after the first 4 holes and 20 minutes gone by that we would never finish the course if we were stopping for burpees the whole way. The Q audibled the penalties in favor of the frisbee thrower working towards each block as the others took turns carrying the steadily increasing number of cinder blocks.
Knockout got us to #5 with only one bad toss. But then Crimson was faced with a tough throw to attempt a straight-line for #6. The pax were glad for the audible after the 1st throw hit the flag pole, the 2nd off the statue and the 3rd veered right. One of the exercises at hole #6 was a top-shelf derkin (feet on top of the wall) and YHC had to cap the count at 5 using the “can’t Q it, don’t do it” logic. #whew.
Next up was our FNG who started out with the frisbee in the rough, but finished admirably from there. To make Crimson feel better, I threw again for hole 8 and proceeded to hit every wall in between. Play continued without much incident through hole 10. Then, due to time contraints I opted to skip a few holes in favor of collecting the blocks at the furthest points of the campus.
We skipped hole #11, knocked out holes 12-14, then on to 17 where we returned the 13 blocks we had amassed (Belle was the Beast who carried 3 cinder blocks from corner to corner!). We returned the blocks to their home and headed for #18 back by the cars. A half dozen of us paid our respects to Jane Fonda while Ultraman did homage to Cindy by returning her and her friend (#15 and #18) back the pile.
In all, 7 men carried up to 14 blocks all around St Mark’s campus while performing unique exercises at each stop. GoRuck would have been proud of the teamwork displayed in hauling the blocks, and despite some errant throws, everyone participated in throwing the disc. If F3 were into particpation trophies, all would have gone home with gold.
We may only have completed 15 holes before CoT and #coffeeteria and some counts may have been audibled, but in all we had a solid beatdown and plenty of #2ndF. Many thanks to the men who opted to join me at MightyJungle.
