Fightclub – targets and fighting

Event Date

Dec 06, 2019

There are over 600 points that can be used as targets on the human body, many can be used to hurt or stun but only a few can disable an apponent and even fewer can end the fight instantly.  Learning the points is easy enough,, but understanding which targets are available and which strike to use and which angle would produce the best results begins to make things a bit more complicated. Things change during a fight, yes, I know that is obvuous. But the main point is that access to targets constantly change so we need to train ourselves to recognize the effective targets throught the range of movement. But before we will be able to utilize these targets we need to train the body to hit the precise target that we intend to hit.  This involves training in repeated movements that produce the exact path for the arms and legs.  We call these practice techniques the "50 Ways of Movement".  There are actually more than 50 but that is a long story.  These ways of movement were developed centuries ago so that people can practice all movements the body can produce in a way that can be repeated and corrected.

This morning we started with a few of the 50 ways.  These movements are to be repeated so that the body learns how to move and apply a specific force in a specific direction.  Some will seem unatural and awkward but eventually will become easier and more effective.  The few that we did today were very familiar since these movements have been used since the first days of fightclub.  There is a reason YHC has been going over specific tactics in a specific order and after seeing the movements this morning it was evident that the tactics that we were training with are actually part of the 50 ways.  The funny thing we will discover,, is that the 50 ways was developed to cover every movement the body can make so that the individual or combined 50 ways will eventually cover all the things we will do in a fight. Which makes practicing them very useful and effective.

We then moved on to targeting and more specifically dynamic targeting,,,, which is simply tracking and hitting multiple targets as the body positions and attack angles change.  We have been focusing on just a few effective targets.

Jaw ( from different angles has 4 main directonal strikes), throat, carotid, deaf point, collar bone, shoulder, bicep, Forearm, Ribs (near LV 14 and GB 24), side of  ribs (SP21), spine,  kidney, inside and outside of knee.  These are the main targets that we will focus on for now. They represent effective targets that are avialable and produce the effects we desire during an altercation. We paired off and moved in , attacking and defending,, focusing on the changing available targets and the angle of attack required for each.

We then sped things up a bit and entered into some active combat.  This is an important part of the training as it will help us realize that fighting is stressful and makes the body tire out very quickly. We need to learn to control the breathing and stress responses in order to maintain the ability to fight or flee.  It will also start to develop the reaction time needed to respond to attacks. The development of automated responses will allow us to focus on what is truly going on in an altercation.

The Christmas season is quickly approaching and we need to stay alert for the dangers that can threaten our families.

Stay safe

It is an honor to train with you fine men.
