When the Roll is Called Up Yonder

Event Date

The plan was to bring back an old workout with some minor modifications. Who knew that we last played Monopoly almost exactly two years ago? Back then, it was the grand finale to Week of the Pirate. Today there would be no patch, just a sweat-soaked fun-fest.

Like the first time, the gist was to break into three teams of three. This time each team got a die to determine the number of “spaces” to move around the 1/3 mile parking lot. Perform the exercises listed at that space and continue on. I omitted the battle rope and jump ropes to minimize COVID concerns (although we still had 4 stations with shared, concrete coupons).

This time I added 4 City LYNX (railroad) spaces which required one teammate to run forward to the next team which would then have a cascading effect with each team sending one member forward to the next team until all three teams had 3 men each again. Meanwhile the other two men that landed on the railroad space would move back one space and do the exercise there. Simple right?

Not so. Total chaos ensued when the first team landed on a RR. It took several rolls before it began to click, and even then there were too many times that the runner ran a lap or more to catch up to the next team. I think The Force holds the record for furthest train route with his 1.25 laps to get to the next team.

Still, the idea behind the addition — encouraging the pax to change teams for more 2nd F opportuities — was well-received, and when it was over I think everyone got their money’s worth. Speaking of money, no one got $200 for passing Go today, but neither did anyone have to do penalty burpees for not wearing black. And, unlike a real game of Monopoly, this one ended promptly after an hour!

The prayer during CoT was a bit selfish as YHC thanked God for all the men He surrounds me with who encourage me to be better on a daily basis. As a case in point, Toxic helped out by remembering to mention Cash at the end which I had forgotten in my haste to get to #coffeeteria.

WAM (pop culture reference anyone?)

  • YHC had no idea it was 2 years ago that we last played Monopoly at Mighty Jungle. Rocket, The Force, Titan, Topgun and Ultraman get credit for playing both times. Anyone remember Knockout, Kosar and Twister?
  • Titan took a lot of flak as he pulled in with a green shirt. But then he switched to a black shirt when he got out of the car leaving the joke on us.
  • Cobains for not remembering Caesar’s name in the beginning. My poor excuse is that he runs a lot and so we are rarely at the same workouts.
  • Rumor has it that Toxic knew how to work the dice so that his team always landed on Jail (burpees). Thank goodness I was only on his team foir one of those rolls.
  • While I always appreciate the regulars at workouts, it was great to see both Crimson and Caesar this morning.
  • Thanks to Toxic for taking the selfie today to show off the Jungle’s Johnny Cash tribute.
  • Anyone else notice that Titan is the only one without gray hairs in the pic above?
  • The Force wins the day for not only Being the Bacon, but bringing it to #coffeeteria to share
