An Epic Fairy Tail

Event Date

Aug 31, 2020

Once upon a time, two young boys played in the rain and stomped in puddles without reservation. They got soaked from head to toe, all of their clothes and shoes completely dripping wet, and they didn't care because they embraced the moment, enjoying every splish and every splash. But one day someone taught them that they shouldn't play in the rain, and from that day on, for decades, they shielded themselves from the rain and took cover at every threat of inclement weather… until this morning!

At 0529:00 YHC realized he had received a text message at 0515 from Fairy Godfather saying, "What are you thinking?" YHC began to ponder his intention. Was he asking what in the world I was doing walking my dog past his house in the middle of a lightning storm, or was he asking about the plan for Damascus Ruck this morning with such imminent, ominous weather? And alas, FGF arrived at the AO at 0529:20 before I could respond to his text message. It turns out he was not asking about my dog-walking judgement.

So, off we go exchanging interrogative statements such as, "What do you think?", "Are you doing this on behalf?", and "Should we do this?" There was lightning with only a drizzle, the lightning diminished and the drizzle turned into full-on rain, and the rain turned into a gully-washer.

We toured Summers Walk at a brisk pace starting with the usual "FORD" warm-up, check-in, asking for two to three minutes reporting the state of the following:

  • F – Family
  • O – Occupation
  • R – Recreation
  • D – Dreams

Transition to the discussion of the day – Sabbath.

Start with the Biblical basis:

Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Discussion questions:

  1. What is the purpose of the Sabbath?
  2. What should we DO on the Sabbath?
  3. What should we NOT do on the Sabbath?
  4. With the Ten Commandments being given thousands of years ago, in the Old Testament, should we keep the Sabbath today?

We had great discussion while enjoying the gift of walking with weight in the rain, completing 2.88 miles!

Quote of the day:  "Some people feel the rain and some people just get wet."  – Bob Marley

MOLESKIN:

  1. Fairy Godfather fimly established the legitimacy of his name this morning and it was awesome! You should have been there …not my place to share.
  2. Major props to FGF for piloting the Damascus Ruck! You are a great OL F3 leader.
  3. Come on out. It is a great way to get out and move, while combining the 2nd and 3rd F's. We walk about 3 miles. Carry weight, carry more weight, or don't. Bring the dog, bring the cat, or don't. Great discussion, great support, and great accountability.
  4. This morning was a gift. We felt the rain.

PRAYERS:

  1. FGF's grandmother is going in for toe bone surgery this week. Prayers that she will recover and maintain mobility.
  2. YHC's father-in-law is in general poor health and his care has become overwhelming for his wife. M Sparknut will be traveling to Louisiana this week to give relief to her for a few days.

…hope you got your money's worth!
