No Banging today at the Titan 4 miler

Even in a region as established as LKN, new lexicon is created and accepted into regular conversations.

Overheard on Saturday during the River Rat 10k from Mona Lisa:  "Guys, I'm gonna bang at The Church".  If you think I'm making this up, here is the proof.

It took YHC almost 30 seconds to process what I had heard.  No one else questionned what Mona had said.  Eventually I turned around, asked for confirmation of what Mona just said; and deduced it meant roughly "I will be stopping at the Church to catch my breath for a minute".

Very interesting!

Additionally, we ran the Titan 5 miler just last week.  Jaws kindly let YHC call out most of the turns, and YHC is very close to finally having it all down.  Well, to really learn the Titan 5 miler; one must also learn the Titan 4 miler.  It's true.  Several years ago (~6?), Tantrum created a great 5 mile route with a bonus "sub-route" that is roughly 4 miles.  That is, with a couple of short cuts, Pax running at a slower pace can still get nice mileage AND see other Pax several times along the route.  This brilliant sort of witch craft deserves more praise, and hence today we did the shortcuts.

The caveat:  NO BANGING!  That is, no stopping along the route.  Not only did the Pax step up to that challenge, they also met the challenge of running each mile faster than the previous.  Here is, roughly; how it all went down:

0530:  Cannot start yet.  There might be a couple of late joiners.  Surprisingly, Jorel was not among them; he was on time!

0532:  98 Degrees and Snake Eyes roll in.  The strategy worked.

0533:  Snake Eyes is ready to roll.

0535:  98 Degrees is…getting changed?  Uh…we gots to go.  98 would quickly catch us.

The Thing:

  • Titan 4 miler.
  • No banging.
  • Progressive pace (9:58, 9:29, 9:25, and 8:51 according to Strava)

Mary:

  • No time for Mary.

Recover, recover.

Moleskin:

  1. Jaws has been helping YHC learn this course.  There is one disputed turn on the 4 miler actually, over in Tantrum and Jaws neighborhood.  Rumor has it that on their run home together after the workout they played "rock, paper, scissors" over which turn is correct.
  2. Frogger pushed the pace today but not so far that YHC couldn't call out the turns helpfully.  If there is any Pax that rivals YHC on navigational struggles, it is Frogger!
  3. Jorel was part of the Chardonnay 20k on Saturday and reports that everyone was booking it pretty fast.  Nice work all around.
  4. Snake Eyes was crushing some hills today!  And he shall earn another Bourbon lottery ticket next week as he has the Q at Titan.
  5. 98 Degrees I think offered to be the next MQ of Titan?  Or did he offer to buy me a bottle of Bourbon?  Or both?  Can't recall exactly, but we do know there may not be any more open Q spots for a ticket.  Sorry bud YHC decided to selfishly grab 4 Qs over the past 7 weeks because I really want a nice bottle of Bourbon!  *
  6.  * P.S. – I'm not a huge fan of Bourbon to be honest.  But it would be nice to have for when we have all you fine folks over soon.
  7. Tantrum, these 4 / 5 mile route combos are pretty cool.  Now that we have people well versed in both, we think we can truly offer both on any given first Monday of the month.  It will be epic.
  8. Thank you Jaws for the opportunity to lead and for humoring the attempt at humor today.  We didn't bang, but there is nothing wrong with banging.  Maybe just not by a Church?
