Cinco de Mayo en The Mighty Oak

FNG-1 = Jerry, first time poster who we hope to see again soon.  26-May-2021 Update:  Added Jerry, now known as Estwing, to the Backblast.

For Cinco de Mayo, the "Turn Brothers" delivered an imperfect beatdown in nearly perfect Spanish.  Or something like that.  Here is, roughly; what went down.

0450:  Oh cool I'm early for The Standard.  I can get out and stretch my old bones…wait why are they telling me to hurry up?  Oh, this is the "super secret early exclusive standard" run by the Goatbusters.  Poptart led Auto, Don Ho, Lego, Lego's dog, and YHC through 3+ miles including several iterations of 1 min on / 30 seconds off.  That was exhausting, but the joke would be on Poptart later as he partnered with me and had to do most of the reps!!

0529:  We were off with 25 Pax in total, perhaps a few ticks early.

WARM-O-RAMA:

  • Mosey around the parking lot with some butt kickers and high knees.
  • Circle up behind the school, disclaimer given.
  • "Los Americanos" (Mericans) x 10 IC (En Espanol!)
  • Slow Deep Squats x 15 IC
  • Elbow plank x 1 minute
  • Elbow plank "hold for uno momento mas" (1 more minute – Lego would later correct my poor grammar)
  • IST x 15 IC
  • Soybean Farmers x 15 IC

The "Cinco de Mayo" I.E. on 5/5 Thing:

Run to the end of the parking lot.

Run back, "mas rapido" this time.

Partner up.  Size didn't matter.

  • Partner 1:  Hold Elbow plank
  • Partner 2:  Run to second basketball hoop, do 5 Burpees.  Run back.  Run to 3rd hoop, do 5 slow squats.  Run back.
  • Flip flop.
  • Repeato, but with Americanos and Jump Squats.
  • Repeato again, but with 180 degree turn Burpees and Jump Squats.  The Pax did 180 degree turns on the Jump Squats as well, which wasn't my intention.  Cobains for the Q fail.  It looked awesome though so we rolled with it.

Mosey to the wall for some wall sits, including:

  • 1 minute including air presses x 15 IC
  • 1 minute more (Lego corrected my grammar here, he is 50% Spanish after all) including touch dem heels x 15 IC

Recovery lap around the track.  Handoff to the honorable Turncoat, 1 minute early at 0551.

Turncoat:

  • Form 2 lines for your standard "Moraccian Night Club Native American Run"…but with a twist!  The last person drops off and does 1 Burpee before running to the front.
  • Repeato until all Pax performed 2 Burpees.

Set up some cones 20 feet away from a line (a crack, really).  Find your partner again, and grab one cinder block per team for:

  • Partner 1:  Bear crawl to and around the cone
  • Partner 2:  Skull Crushers
  • Repeato until 100 team reps achieved
  • Partner 1:  Bear crawl to and around the cone
  • Partner 2:  Overhead Press
  • Repeato until 200 team reps achieved
  • (Friendly audible suggestion from Turnpike:  Denied!  In fact, the cones were moved even farther away as a penalty for such a weak suggestion!)
  • Partner 1:  Farmer's carry with block to and around the cone
  • Partner 2:  Squats
  • Repeato until 300 team reps achieved (though some teams ran out of time.  Actually it was most.  No actually it was all.  This is not criticism of Turncoat, but that sucked!  He can't read the stuff in parenthesis I'm told)

Put blocks away.  Time for Mary.

Mary:

  • 'Captain Thors' – WWII situp x 1 IC + Mexican Hammers x 1 in 4 count cadence.
  • Repeato with 2.
  • Repeato with 3.
  • Repeato with 4.
  • Repeato with 5.  Ouch this hurts…thankfully he'll stop at 5 because it is Cinco de…er nevermind
  • Repeato with 6 (Yelp rating impacted)
  • 1 Crisp Clean Burpee (courtesy of Turnpike)

Recover, recover.  According to Strava, we covered 1.58 miles in various ways.

Moleskin:

  1. Welcome to FNG Jerry!  Hopefully Lego will bring you out again soon buddy.
  2. The Birkdale Clown Car is back!  Welcome back Kotters to Big Rock, Dry Rub, Magnus, and Tiramisu.  Though it has been a while for some of them, they didn't look like they've missed a beat.
  3. What a great crew today!  Turncoat and YHC were humbled by such great turnout.  Some folks like Kosar even admitted to resisting snooze temptations because "something cool was happening today".  Don't know if we fulfilled that but hopefully people got a good sweat.
  4. YHC took us out and humbly reminded everyone to reach out to our friend Olive this week.  Every day is hard for some, some days are clearly harder than others.
