Interested in joining a Tuna 200 Relay team?  Comment below.  Common questions:

What is the Tuna 200?  It’s a 200 mile relay race, very much like BRR, but flat (mostly).  Starts outside Raleigh, finishes in Atlantic Beach.  It’s a very well-organized event with a really fun finish line – right on the beach.  Same race organizers who do the Palmetto 200 and Colonial 200.

What is the time commitment?  Friday, October 25th through Sunday, October 27th.

How much $$$?  Last year I helped run a team where everyone stayed overnight after the race, worked out to about $300 each all-in.  That included race costs, hotel the night after, and some really sweet shirts from Chief.  We usually ask for part of that up-front to help cover registration cost – that’s your “hard commit” to the event.

How much do I need to run, how fast should I be?  Be ready for three legs, with about 8 hours of rest between them.  Most runners will have at least 12 total miles, but usually not more than 20.  We can control who does what sets if you have concerns.  As for how fast… if you regularly do F3, you’re probably fine.  There are competitive teams who run this thing… we’re not that kind of group.  It’s you v. you on the road.

What do we do after the race?  Beer & shenanigans.  Probably a few hotel rooms – location TBD.  We have team meetings to discuss these things (“team meetings” = we run and then go drink beers and make plans).

Are other teams being put together?  Maybe?  I’m not trying to steal anyone’s thunder by making this offer to the whole F3 LKN region.  I just really enjoy these races, and I think it’s important to give men an open opportunity to join a team if they’re up for the challenge – or just want a fun weekend of CSAUP running.  I think this is a great way to meet new people from outside your normal workout circles, so don't hesitate to reach out if you don't recognize the names you're seeing in this thread.

What happens if more than 12 guys want to commit?  Once we’re confident we can fill a second team, we’ll register a second team.  Maybe even a third.  Would be a wonderful problem to have.

Soft commit = comment below, maybe send me your email address.  Just means I’ll make sure I’m communicating with you as deadlines approach or the team gets filled.

Hard commit = $150 to me, Jaws, before Saturday June 8th.  First 11 people to get me money are on the team.  The next few will form a wait-list.  I don’t want anyone who WANTS to do this race to be stuck at home, so we’ll try to find a solution that includes as many pax as possible.  If you have to drop out but have already paid, we will TRY to refund your money – IF we can find a replacement runner.
