FIA Olympics inspired workout at Dragon Slayer

FNG-1 = "Ricky Rose-A" ("Hard A", not the actual spelling, trying to write down how the guys pronounced it)  He is a second post FNG, Firestone's nephew, who we named today

FNG-2, FNG-3, FNG-4:  Bad Santa, Cannoli, Mary Lou – Believe all Davidson guys, please correct me if wrong; and none found on the website.

A few weeks ago MQ Cherry Bomb agreed to Q at Fartlek in September for YHC.  As per Quid Pro Quo MQ rules, YHC was then contractually required to return the favor at Dragon Slayer.  Here is, roughly, what went down:

0500:  Cherry Bomb, Jobe, Swing State, and YHC for a run standard.  We covered ~2.19 miles according to Strava.  Swing State was a few minutes late but easily caught us.

0522 ish:  Several Pax for a "Core Standard", while several other Pax gathered kettlebells from the storage area.

0530:  Disclaimer given, workout explained.

The "FIA Olympics inspired" Thing:

The women of FIA do this awesome yearly competition that includes several creative events and even has opening ceremonies!  We sort of stole the idea, but we forgot to add the creativity, Cobains.

The workout was a Tabata with 5 minutes on, 90 seconds off, of the following:

  • Burpees AMRAP
  • Elbow Plank (gracious allowances to go up to our hands, once or twice)
  • Wall Sit, including some air presses and seal claps
  • KB swings
  • A "Core Medley" consisting of Man Maker Elbow Plank x 10 IC and Captain Thors up to 9!!
  • KB various flexed holds

There was a "scrawny guy recovery lap" at one point, mostly for YHC's benefit.  We had some time for Mary.

Mary:

  • Low flutters x 15 IC
  • LBCs x 25 IC

Recover, recover.  According to Strava, we kept the moving to a minimum and only covered 0.78 miles.

Moleskin:

  1. We reminded everyone about this great event:  http://www.f3lakenorman.com/announcement/4th-annual-christina-latini-memorial-8k-2-mile-walk .  Please plan to run, walk, volunteer, and / or donate if you can.
  2. We welcomed Firestone's nephew from Florida.  He is a 16 year old basketball player and is starting to work out more.  We named him Ricky Rose-A (because I don't know how to put the stress mark over the "e").  It is a play on a musician.  I need someone younger and cooler to expand in the comments below.
  3. YHC had 2 KBs.  One was 25 pounds and one was 35 pounds.  Despite having ~40 pounds on Kosar, YHC gave him the bigger bell.  Because YHC is a d***!  Nah, because Kosar is a beast.  Believe he got the gold for the most Burpees, with 84…
  4. …although Slingshot stopped counting at some point so I guess we'll never know for sure.  Great job to everyone for pushing through that.
  5. Believe Bad Santa took gold with the most KB Swings…with over 200!!  Wow.
  6. We had to explain to Jobe the concept of a "scrawny guy recovery lap".  Because this man doesn't need or take breaks.  During one of the 90 seconds "breaks" he actually led a mutiny set of Captain Thors to 10.  Nice work today.
  7. Dingo said he came all the way to Dragon Slayer to see YHC.  I'm touched!  But mostly sad we didn't get to catch up much.  I blame the lack of oxygen though.
  8. During set 6 of the Tabata, we sped up time by going around the circle and having everyone state their F3 Name, how long they've been in F3, and the AO of their first workout.  First time meeting Swamp Fox I think for me, he's been in F3 for about 7 months.  Well, judging by his fitness level, he was not sitting on the couch before joining us in F3.  Great work today.
  9. Bad Santa, Cannoli, and Mary Lou mentioned something about a "Candy Land" AO.  This is a real thing!  Can anyone provide more details?
  10. During set 6 we also discussed everyone's favorite AO.  Enron wins points from YHC for naming Fartlek as his favorite AO!  I'm sure this has more to do with the new MQ than the proximity to Enron's house.  Nice work crushing the workout today.
  11. Thank you Cherry Bomb for the opportunity to lead.  I'll be honest, it can be intimidating to Q knowing in advance I would likely be the 6 on many occasions.  With regulars like yourself, Swing State, etc.; that indeed proved to be the case today.  What inevitably happens though is that the younger athletic folks push the middle aged guys to work harder.  That's why Isotope is the best region in all of F3, and I'll fight anyone who claims otherwise.  Aye.

Enjoyed it gents, and thanks for the push.
