This morning had all the makings of a potential sad clown workout.  YHC scanned pre-blast tweets late on Christmas Day to mentally hard commit to a post holiday workout and noticed an empty Q assignment for Berean.  Recollecting that our own Gnarly Goat was serving the Town of Davidson on Christmas Day, YHC was more than obliged to serve up a Berean beatdown to ensure adequate coverage.  A late pre-blast was sent with fingers crossed at least 1 PAX would make it to a frigid Birkdale Village.

At 5:15AM and temps at 18 degrees, the Total Wine parking lot was completely empty.  YHC set up off on a sad clown slow mosey around the perimeter of Birkdale Village, stopping a few times for solo SSH’s and merkins and continued the loop, trying to quiet those voices to quit and duck in to Starbucks and warm up over a hot cup of coffee.  At this point, just as YHC was rounding the corner of Dick’s parking lot, about 5 minutes into a tortuous sad clown workout, a white Honda Civic (The Titan mobile) was spotted in the distance that wasn’t there at launch time.  Can’t recall when YHC was so happy to see a PAX at a workout and after a few high fives and pats on the back with Titan, we completed a 2 mile mosey around Birkdale village with pain stations mixed in along the way.  A few highlighted stops along the way: the trail along the frozen Turtle Pond where air squats and merkins were performed, a quick stop in front of a women’s lingerie store for SSH’s, more merkins and a brief mobility moment, step ups and merkins in front of the movie theatre on the raised wall, quadrophelia up the parking deck with air squats at the top, and some MARY mixed in along the way.

Notable

  1. YHC reminded that not all of us have the luxury of taking time off on special holidays like Christmas.  Please read this blog post by Gnarly Goat and be reminded to be joyful when duty calls you to serve
  2. Thankful for Titan and his decision to accompany YHC on a bone chilling Berean this morning.
  3. A great discussion over coffee at Starbucks as The Count (coming off a sad clown Fireball run) joined us for a threesome conversation about the holiday season.
  4. It was one of those mornings that made it all worthwhile to show up and a great way to kick off the week.

Humbly in Christ,

Possum
