IPC Week 1 – Jillian Michaels what?!?!?!

Okay, so we were warned by other PAX who had performed Week 1 already that this was going to be really hard.  Not to mention the introduction of a new exercise called Jillian Michaels that is the definition of CSAUP.

Thought for sure they were being dramatic, but 10 other PAX heeded the challenge and came out and rocked out to a playlist inspired by early 2000’s rock.

As you can see below, this was a bit complicated so brought out the whiteboard with a spotlight to help us keep track of the rounds.

The Thang:

Total time of 45 minutes with final score is total reps of exercises performed. Every 5 minutes, there will be a timer with MOT for that round and continue that MOT until you complete that round.

Each round you perform a total of 80 reps alternating between two exercises 10 reps at a time.

Round 1

  • Flying Squirrel (Burpee without merkin)
  • WW3 Situps with coupon (Chest press on back and shoulder press at top of situp)

MOT – Lunge Walk with block – 10 yards out and back

Round 2

  • Block Over Burpees (Jump over block and perform a burpee)
  • No Cheat Merkins (Hand-release merkins with 2 shoulder taps)

MOT – Murder Bunnies – 10 yards out and back

Round 3

  • Thrusters with coupon (Touch shoulders to knees)
  • Jillian Michaels (donkey kicks with knee taps)

MOT – Rifle carry (Zamperini) – 10 yards out and back

Moleskin:

So they were right.  This was really challenging and not alot of movement and humidity didn’t help at all.  I don’t even know who got the most reps because we are all gassed at the end and went straight to the gatorade to try and re-hydrate themselves (another suggestion made by fellow PAX).

  • Cherry Bomb had already done this challenge on Monday and was smart enough to not do it again, but nonetheless did tempo runs on the track while we went through Week 1.  Way to keep pushing!
  • Cobra continues his quest to get ready for Spartan Beast!  He crushed it.  Must be the new shoes 🙂
  • I think Strava said Cousin Eddie did 463 reps?  Insane, that means he almost went through the whole workout twice.  Beast Mode.
  • Popcorn HC’d to Stretch Armstrong so that Die Hard would come out and he showed up and showed out.  Nicely done sir.
  • Speaking of Popcorn, at nameorama he didn’t flash his normal infamous smile we’ve all come to expect from him which must’ve meant he was too tired to smile and pushed himself.  That must be the secret to stopping the smile, lol.
  • Hollywood is pushing himself and rocked out last week IPC, FKT, and this week IPC as well.  Enjoy seeing him around more and pushing the rest of us.
  • I was watching Scrappy the whole time thinking “How in the world is he already on that round.  Surely his form is off?”.  Wrong, great form through all the rounds and you’re just better than me 🙂
  • Thank you Slingshot for keeping pace with me and after running alot lately is back to getting his bootcamps in and getting stronger there.  At FKT, he mentioned he hadn’t done a burpee in over a month. You couldn’t tell from today.  Having a new baby is pushing you to new levels!  Git r done!
  • There’s a quote from The Office that says “Grunting is scientifically proven to add more power. Ask any female tennis player. Or her husband.” Swamp Fox outpowered us all as evidenced by the amount of grunting he executed flawlessly which I’m sure lead to an inordinate amount of reps.
  • If Swing State says a workout is hard, then it’s definitely hard.  The dude always kills it and is so far ahead and today was no exception but he actually looked tired!  He is human and not a machine.  Got to hang out a bit with him for coffee and I want to be like him when I grow up, even though he’s younger than me.

Way to push it PAX and get after it.  Week 1 in the books and looking forward to next week (not really).
