Moleskin/Lesson:

Today was  discussion about “legacy”. During our deep conversation, Ping told us all that he was confronted with the notion about what he will do when the rest of us are “old or dead” as he is much younger than the rest of us. You will be fine Ping. Perhaps that’s a call to action for us all to EH just a ‘lil more. Thanks to Jedi for lending YHC the keys to the AO. Being among F3 brothers in the gloom is a great way to start the day.

Coffee Talk:

We focused on the Fourth Quadrant in Q Source: Leave Right-The Construction Of Legacy. Legacy is what a Virtuous Leader leaves behind through the Effective performance of his Mission, which is the Course Of Action he pursues to achieve his Ultimate Life Purpose (ULP).

Every person is born with a ULP and identifying it is not very difficult. It is simply the recognition of the overarching Disadvantage that nags at a man (more than any other Problem) his entire life. Identifying one’s ULP really just means abandoning the exhausting effort expended trying to ignore it.

A man’s Legacy is not comprised simply of what he happens to say and do during his lifetime. For most of us that will all be forgotten, and much more quickly than we want to believe. Rather, Legacy is constructed through the people a man has intentionally Influenced during his life and the Problems that he deliberately sets out to solve—all compounded by his love and generosity of heart in passing on what he knows.

The HIM doesn’t waste his life flailing at Conditions that will never change no matter what he does. He enlists the aid of others in the accomplishment of his Mission by Influencing them to Move toward the Advantage his Solution provides.

Because it is easy, most people will come to know their Ultimate Purpose, they just won’t do anything about it because doing (the Course Of Action) is the hard part.

Failure can create durability if channeled correctly, but you must first have determination and the ability to learn from each failure.

For a HIM’s Legacy to grow, his personal Mission must align with the Mission of the Groups in which he is a Member.

Here’s an excerpt from “Stop Worrying About Your Tombstone. Instead, Build A Legacy” by Todd Henry:

Leadership and legacy are not just what you do, but also how you do it. It will be determined by a series of choices you make over your life about how to spend this moment – here, and now. The challenging thing is that each moment feels like a throwaway, because another one follows closely on its heels. How you choose to engage here and now speaks more to your character than whatever residual stuff you leave in your trail.

Rather than asking “what do I want on my tombstone?”, which is nothing but a cold, dead piece of stone, ask yourself “who will gather by the road just to catch a glimpse as my hearse passes by?”

Who will you impact so deeply that they will continue your work even after you are gone?

Who will you challenge to up their game, to be better than they are?

Who will you irreversibly impact?

Who will you stand in the gap to defend?

That, friends, is the stuff that lasting legacies are made of.
