T minus 1 day: YHC feels frisky so he takes the open Q. Wanting to ensure some intervals and some hills and see if the pax will stay grouped together. The experiment was on.
T minus 45 minutes: YHC wakes up to rain and immediately dreads the commitment. Then the ghost of Crocs haunts his inner soul reminding him “train in the rain, you don’t get to chose the race day weather”
T minus 1 minute: disclaim for the leaves and wet road, explain the path from the pb
T minus 0 seconds: launch
That Fartlek Thang:
Run half mile to the top of infinity loop on Hugh McAuley. Run the 0.8 mile loop crossing in the middle like an infinity symbol (or figure eight). On the lower half do tempo, on the upper have do regular pace. Add the beyond with a 0.4 loop on Standerwick. Repeato until time is up and then run half mile back.

The fast and slow of moleskin
- Prayers up for Cousin Eddie’s mom, Chilly Willy’s friend mother (?) and family, The Force’s buds.
- Swiftie joined us and it was great. He’s been adventuring down south charlotte and OTB due to schedule so it was cool have him out and catch up.
- The goal of the course was to try to ensure pax did some speed work intervals. Sometimes we just get out and run. Which isn’t bad, but this isn’t Candy Shop or Odyseey. There is purpose and benefit to the speed work intervals. I am assuming all did it. YHC isn’t too proud to say my speed and my regular faded over time. That was a deceptive hill.
- Good crowd of 11 and yes I remembered them all without recording. I’m on my mental game today. Now I get to go vote and hope I make good choices.
- Pax got bunched in to three groups so YHC can’t comment on the other banter, but the group(s) YHC connected with were talking running, election day, and everything in between
- What I learned today: Ultraman has always been the ‘Tope’s resident running coach. He enjoys it, he studies it, he wants others to experience it as he does. It is so cool to see Enron become that as well. Dude is so pumped on running and over the past two years I’ve seen him get so good at it. Sure faster times and longer distances. But also knowledge of technique, gear, intentionality of training, etc. And he offers guidance and support in a good way. See there is a difference. Some people who are good at something talk about it, try to coach and tell others, but it comes from a place of propping themselves up. When you find something that sparks a passion, and you become fulfilled by it, your cup runs over and you must pour it out to others. But it manifests in a different way; it isn’t about propping up your ego, it is about invitation – inviting other to share the joy, share the fulfillment. And that is a great place to be and a special thing to give. So be an Enron and when your cup runs over, don’t let it spill over as a mess….turn your cup into a pitcher and pour it out into others to fill them up
Thanks for the kind words Stray! Also, thanks for the Q!
Agree; I would want either of these HIMs on my coaching team. If anyone needs tips on running slow but consistent, YHC is happy to help.
