A small but dedicated group of fine men made the trek to Mustang in the somewhat chilly but not terribly gloomy gloom to get their Saturday started off right.

10 IC side straddle hops

10 IC cotton pickers

10 IC windmills

10 IC mountain climbers

THE THANG

Let’s mosey our way out of the parking lot and down Clubber Lane

Continue ALL the way down until we get to the part where it straightens out to go up the hill to the end.

Stop for a quick breather and then

  • Sprint the rest of the way to the top
  • Turn around a walk back to where the sprint started.
  • Mosey back up Clubber Lane to the next street and…
  • Sprint to the top (in my best Morgan Freeman voice “it was at this point when Sonar began to think he may have screwed up”)
  • Catch your breath by walking back down to the bottom
  • Mosey to the corner at the bottom and…
  • Yup, we’ll sprint that little sucker too
  • Mosey up to the next street and…
  • Is it getting predictable yet?
  • Finish out sprinting the last two streets

Instead of walking back down the last one, Sonar realizes that the sidewalk to the elementary school is right there. So he says “to the elementary school!”

Stop at the small basketball court (after a quick and enlightening discussion about which year Dolittle attended Catawba Springs Elementary) in the back and see if any of the five balls laying around have any air in them. One has enough, so we play a game:

One person, the shooter, elects to shoot from 1/4 court, 1/2 court, 3/4 court or full court (it’s really small court). Here’s the catch: if you make it, the other two have to do 1,2,3,or 4 burpees – based on how far away you shoot (longer shot, more burpees – duh) but if the shooter misses, he has do the burpees.

Five full rounds of this made for quite a few burpees – some of us thought we were better shooters than reality indicated – but not so many that Dolittle didn’t suggest that we double the penalties for round five – suggestion accepted.

Let’s mosey our way to the small track behind the school. We’ll set up three “stations”: 1 runs the track, 1 does lunges, 1 does LBCs.  When runner returns, he starts lunges, lunger moves to LBCs, and LBCs becomes the runner. Cycle through each person running.

Repeato, but with squats and planks.

Mosey back to the launch pad (brief detour to grab a water bottle and pick up a stray tennis ball)

In accordance with the unofficial rules of Mustang, when a random item such as a tennis ball is found, we must incorporate it somehow. Sonar was thinking we were gonna do more hill sprints, so…

Diesel suggests we throw the ball up the hill and sprint to highest point it reaches. Each person actually tries to throw it well so we end up doing a couple of rounds of some pretty good hill sprints for a total of six sprints.

Running out of time but getting close to three miles so we mosey to the stop sign down by the gym and walk our way back to finish out.

6MOM

Mixed in (sort of – there were some LBCs in there)

REFLECTION

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Prayers for Diesel’s father in law as he deals with cancer. Prayers for Diesel’s M, Jen, as they navigate this situation.

Continued prayers for Dolittle’s M, also Jen (but not the same Jen), in her recovery.

Prayers for Sonar’s 2.0 for guidance and happiness.

MOLESKIN

  • workout name comes from a couple of instances this morning where a question by Sonar was met with responses somewhat different than what he was looking for – emphasizing, as Diesel pointed out – that communication isn’t always as obvious as it might seem.
  • lots of great mumble chatter from only a few guys.
  • Missed those of you that were down-range or simply couldn’t/wouldn’t make it this morning.
  • Coffeeteria was small but more great conversation was had.
  • DON’T FORGET – TURKEY BOWL 2024 at 7:00 on Thursday at Mustang!!
  • As always, it is an honor to be allowed to “lead” and a privilege just to be a part this thing we call F3
