Twas the night before Jungle and — what the fudge? It’s not Christmas; it’s practically Easter!
But when I reached out to the Q per the calendar about the lack of a preblast last night, I learned that he would be in Asheville and running towards Greenville with several of the Jungle regulars. Another Isotope clique was in Pinehurst prepping for a triathlon. This suggested that numbers might be low and the MQ needed a plan. Fortunately, Bedrock was hosting pickleball for a 2nd week in a row which diverted some of its faithful to St Mark. Far be it from me to leave them wanting.
“The plan was simple.”®
4 sets of 14 cards, one set in each corner of the parking lot. Each set consisted of 7 exercises each with 2 cards. The cards were spread out and face down. At each corner, we would turn over one card and complete the exercise shown. Then mosey to the next corner and repeat. After visiting all 4 corners, we would return to the 1st corner, flip a 2nd card and perform both face up exercises (i.e. stacking). Continue circling (or should that be squaring?) the lot adding an additional exercise each time around. The cards were drawn as follows:
Corner 1 (Mayhem called cadence)
- Windmill x5 IC
- Toy Soldier x5 IC
- SSH x15 IC
- IST x10 IC
- Carrot Puller x5 IC
- Carrot Puller x5 IC
Corner 2 (Bagboy called cadence)
- Hand Release Merkins x5 IC
- Merkins x5 IC
- CDD x5 IC
- CDD x5 IC
- Rocky Balboa x15 IC
- Diamond Merkins x5 IC
Corner 3 (Firestone called cadence)
- J-Lo x10 IC
- LBC x10 IC
- Mason Twist x5 IC
- Low Flutter x15 IC
- Box Cutter x10 IC
- J-Lo x10 IC
Corner 4 (YHC called cadence)
- Lawnmower x10 IC
- Lawnmower x10 IC
- Overhead Press x5 IC
- Bent Over Row x5 IC
- Curls x5 IC
Thug kept making subtle suggestions to end the workout and head for coffee early. Firestone didn’t know what a Windmill was at first (and almost forgot his name at the end), but F3 is like riding a bike and he picked right up with cadence calling by corner 3. Bagboy clearly didn’t like the block work and (I think) purposely slowed his cadence on the 6th round to avoid a 6th set of blocks at corner 4. Firestone attempted to get us back on track by audibling a burpee instead of the Mason Twists, but the pax were insistent that we embrace the pain of sitting on our coccyx a 4th time. And so blocks were put back and we returned to the cars with not a second to spare.
Coffeeteria had 100% participation at the ‘bou where Firestone begrudgingly handed over the 6 cards he tried to keep as souvenirs. YHC suspects he is still in possession of a Monkey Humper card (and maybe the old AO shovel flag) but both were easily replaced. All in all, it was a good day at the Jungle and the substitute Q was grateful for the pickleballers who allowed some of the yabba-dabba-doers (Bedrock gang) to join me and Firestone for a 2nd weekend.
