A Kamikaze Konvergence

A few weeks ago YHC had the grand idea to share the joys of the Fallout Kamikaze with the masses. I’ve been trying to re-establish this Fallout classic on a monthly basis, but our most recent running had far too few attendees. I said to myself, self, you know who would crush this workout, those FKT fellas! So I got approval from the MQ of FKT and the convergence was set. A timely #pb was posted yesterday for the workout and 0510 standard that was labeled as easy. A robust dialogue ensued on twitters that ultimately led to a shameful retreat from the 0510 easy standard and an 0500 non-easy standard was advertised. (FNG is Whiskey Tango, gotta get him on the website.)

I pulled into the parking lot to find Jobe, Swingstate, and Crocs already waiting, and Cobra rolled up just in time to join us for the 0500 standard – 5 men tested the new footbridge along Bud Henderson and got in a little over 2 miles. I can attest this was a non-easy standard pace (self, I says to myself during the run, next time find a way to keep Swingstate and Crocs from setting the pace…). Back in the parking lot DonHo and the Nantan himself came running past and seemed to indicate they were confused about the standard time and started late at 0510, but despite being late they both get included in the standard group as well (did I miss anyone, I feel like I missed someone else for the standard?).

Warmorama

  • SSH x15 – any more warmorama and a full FKT mutiny would have ensued

Thang

The Kamikaze. #STK as they say. Mosey on down to the starting line, try to give brief instructions on the exercises, immediately lose control of the Pax who were too eager to get started, Q fail! We did rounds of 10 squats, 10 merkins, 15 jump squats, 15 WW2’s, 20 merkins, and 20 burpees. No stopping at the bottom like usual, stopping is for pansies. But without stopping, we had too much time leftover. So, Q fail time again, get caught up in the FKT fever, announce a run down Bud Henderson hill to the bridge and back with approx. 8 mins left in the workout. Jobe kindly pointed out halfway down the hill time was going to expire before we could make it back, YHC turns around and alerts the remaining Pax to abandon the run and turn back! Make it back to the bottom of the parking lot a mere 2.5 mins late, apparently still not as late as an Auto Q.

Moleskine

  • FKT Pax are hard to contain – I did my best.
  • Headlamps aren’t needed on the soccer fields, your eyes will adjust… eventually, just hopefully before running into a random soccer goal.
  • Swing State and Heely appeared to tie for the FKT – awesome work by both crushing the workout today. I’m pretty sure both got in 7 rounds.
  • Great to meet former Fallout regular Bootlegger for the first time – you’re welcome back anytime.
  • Didn’t realize we had an Isotope FNG with us until the end of the workout, welcome Whiskey Tango! He’s going to be a regular at the Birkdale workouts soon enough.
  • Always great to host the Nantan, thanks for joining us CB – his first Kamikaze! The first 6 rounds weren’t enough for him, DonHo, Jobe, and Popcorn – great effort by that group.
  • Hippie making a rare Fallout appearance – said he hasn’t done the Kamikaze in 8 years, wouldn’t know it from how easy he made it look.
  • Yes, Drebin, you will get your #bb credit! Some of us actually have to work during the day!
  • Rodeo, Nacho, and Elmers kept each other going the whole time – nice work gents.
  • Thanks to Rodeo for taking us out in prayer
  • Thanks to Swing State for allowing the convergence – Fallout will be glad to return the favor, just ask.
