Pulled up to Mustang and to my surprise, no one was there. Checked the Q calendar and no-one signed up. I waited a few minutes and was getting ready to head on a run through Trilogy when Travolta pulled up and saved the day. I took the Q and quickly thought of a simple circuit that was heavy running.

Reflection:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God. – Matthew 5:9
And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. 30 And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” – Luke 5:29-32
In a culture that is divided, how can we be peacemakers? Jesus was a peacemaker by eating with those who didn’t get along with each other. Levi (Matthew) was a tax collector, and he worked for the Roman government. Most scholars believe that the Romans exercised an 80% tax on the Jews at that time. Tax collectors made their money by charging over the required tax and pocketing the difference. And they had Roman soldiers backing them up so the Jews didn’t have much of an option to fight these unfair practices. One of Jesus’s other disciple was Simon the Zealot. Zealots viewed the Roman government with disdain and they even had a reputation of killing Romans (and those working for the Roman government) by cutting their throat in a crowd and then disappearing. Zealots and tax collectors hated each other. This is like a Navy Seal and Al-Qaeda terrorist sitting at a table and eating after both have lost friends to violence. And they were sitting at the table of Jesus.
The way we can demonstrate peacemaking as believers is to practice hospitality and bring people that we don’t agree with to our dinner table and show them how the Gospel has transformed your life. Allow them the opportunity to see your faith in action. A good book to check out on this topic is “The Gospel Comes with a House Key” by Rosaria Butterfield.
MC:
The traffic in front of the school due to the road construction is too bad for 5:30 in the morning.
Not much talking because the circuit style kept us a part. But, Travolta did tell me that his son is engaged, and the good news is she isn’t a stripper.
Missed those that were unable to attend, but looking forward to the next time!
