Blades of Glory – The Sequel

Event Date

The ice rink surface was a smooth as glass following the overnight Zamboni freeze – This would have been perfect for some pairs skating, but not so much for running.  As a result, the ludicrous "rink" (oval) was off limits because the PAX brought their figure skates instead of hockey skates (that men wear).  So, the Q called audible #1 – run some hill repeats.  However, the PAX complained about the roughness of the ice on the hill, and so we diverted to the bus lot – aka, Audible #2

The bus lot presented the opportunity for the Q to try out an improvised version of “The Michigan” – which was really suicides across the bus lot.  Down and back, down and back, down and back – you get the idea.  Along the way, the mumble chatter was strong and only encouraging words were exchanged – because I care about the PAX fitness.  Even the young gun (Tugs) got into it when he suggested that we should run to the far end snowbank – the Q obliged and cheers of joy from the PAX ensued.  In between the suicides, we did a little abapolooza – nothing like a strong core!

After several rounds of the speed skating suicides, a couple of cool down laps ensued and we return to the gathering spot.  High-fives and congrats were exchanged, no real announcements, COT was complete and coffee was had by a few

MOLESKIN

  • First thing to note is that Do Ho is only 40!!, seems like he has been that age for years – just a babe in the woods
  • It turns out that all Turnpike needed was a little motivation from the Q to step up the pace on the suicides – great effort
  • Tugs won every round – but that was expected given that he is barely out of his teens (28)
  • Note to the PAX – and Jolly specifically – do not try and recruit PAX for a stupid 6-man Palmetto team when I have the Q – I sufficiently discouraged Tugs from falling for the trap! – it worked

That is all!
