Bulls on Parade

Event Date

Jun 27, 2017

Seven sleeveless specimens (and one with sleeves) made it out on a relatively cool morning to play the part of the bull (or an intact (i.e., not castrated) adult male of the cattle species) for the Bulls On Parade.

Pax takes note of the 10 stations in the parking lot that have a variety of objects in them (cinders, kettles, dumbbells and a medicine ball) accompanied by some very poor chalk-menship.  After a not-so-quick demonstration of each of the exercises, the crew executed on the following. 10 reps per exercise except as noted.

Moleskine

  • American history music series continued this week, with this week’s focus on Rage Against the Machine

  • Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1991, the group draws inspiration from early heavy metal instrumentation, as well as hip hop acts such as Afrika Bambaataa, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, and Dutch crossover band Urban Dance Squad. Rage Against the Machine is well known for the members' revolutionary political views, which are expressed in many of the band's songs.

  • Bulls on Parade is a song released by Rage Against the Machine in 1996, and can be found on their second album Evil Empire. One of Rage's signature songs, it deals with what is commonly referred to as the "military-industrial complex", which is the tendency of industry (the arms industry in particular) to encourage military action in order to gain military contracts, and therefore increase its profits. Lines such as "Weapons; not food, not homes, not shoes, not need, just feed the war cannibal-animal," and "what we don't know keeps the contracts alive and moving / they don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'em" are just a couple of examples of the several allusions to the military-industrial complex throughout the song. With the words, "Terror rains, drenching, quenching the thirst of the power dons," the song suggests that the fear of terrorism is used to manipulate the American populace into supporting dubious military action.

  • Rage sounded pretty angry (shocker), they curse a lot, the lead singer has a proclivity for yelling the word “Uhh”, and it is safe to say the music was not exactly Pax's cup of tea

  • Some of the lyrics were not appropriate for either 911 or Brice. Q had the “Best of Bread” ready to be queued up as an audible

  • Alternating mercans are the best cinder block exercise ever. Which is why we did them four times…

  • Grip could not even Bon Jovi up a shirt for the occasion. The Pre-Blast said “Mandatory Sleeveless…”

  • Bulls on parade was also an homage to what this crew looked like during the sprints

  • Q pushed hard to fit in all four 4 sets. Well done. That's 40 exercises by my count, and 12 sprints to boot!

  • Ginsu is getting so jacked from these workouts that there are now stretch marks on his bicep tattoo

  • There were some Chariots of Fire moments for the false starters. Pinky and El Tigre would do well running with the bulls in Pamplona

  • Oktoberfest showed absolutely no ability to carryover exercise comprehension from set 1 to set 3 and set 2 to set 4

  • #SleevelessForCheech

  • Potential for an F3 picnic in future if schedules will allow that will include families, volleyball and beer-verages. Oktoberfest offered to be a face painter for all of the kids

  • Outstanding work men!
