Burning Men at the Outer Limits

Event Date

Dec 01, 2020

7 Pax who may have thought Burning Man was just a late summer festival were treated to their own personal festival of burn at this morning's Outer Limits workout.  More appropriately titled Burning Men.

With forecast temps around freezing, and the 'real feel' below 32, the Pax rolled in expecting to be a bit chilly.  With YHC guest Q'ing and Q'ing for the first time ever at Outer Limits, there were plans to keep the Pax moving to get warmed up and stay warm.  The result was barely a shiver while we quickly surpassed the warm stage and went straight to burning shoulders, legs, core and lungs.

Here's how it went down:

Upon the arrival of 5:30am, immediately depart for a mosey to the corner of Hattie Hollow Ct for the official disclaimer & warm-up.  From there, mosey up to the other end of Hattie Hollow Ct for a CDD-WWiI ladder. loosely inspired by the Horsehoe workout and Sparkunt's birthday (today!)  Start with 5x Carolina Dry Docks, run the U-shaped length of Hattie Holllow to the other end, do 20x WWII Sit-ups, then run back.  Since it is Sparknut's 45th birthday, we 4 sets and incremented by 5s.  In total, we did 5x CDD – 20x WWI, 10x CDD – 15x WWII, 15x CDD – 10x WWII, 20x CDD – 5x WWII with runs back and forth between each set and steam already rising from the burn.

From there, mosey down Summers Walk and head around on Helen Benson to the baby Green for a 4 corner special.  30x LBC at corner #1, run to corner #2 for 15x hand-release merchans, bear crawl to corner #3 for 30x LBC, run to corner #4 for 15x hand-release merchans, then bear crawl back to corner #1.

From there mosey up Helen Benson to Elizabeth Dare for a daring new combo.  Bunny hop, then squat our way to the Justin Michael alley…but, the squats are cumulative, so with each bunny hop you add a squat.  1st hop, 1 squat, 2nd hop, 2 squats, 3rd hop, 3 squats until you reach the alley.  This not only sucked on paper but also in practice and after all the running already completed, this amped up the leg burn like no other.

Since we were now at the top of the alley, we were perfectly poised for another ladder of plank jacks at the top, run to the bottom for leg raises and BACKPEDDLE back up to the top.  We incremented by 3s and started with 3x plank jacks and 15x leg lifts, progressing through 3-15, 6-12, 9-9, 12-6, 15-3 with an awful lot of backpeddling included.

Once this was complete we moseyed around on Kiser Corner back to the clubhouse just in time for COT.  In total, we carded 3 miles and a lot of burning in different parts.  There was a good deal of heavy breathing and not a single bit of teeth chattering heard.

Thanks to Puser for the invitation and opportunity to guest Q – I encourage you to give it a try!

Thanks fo Fidel for bringing the donuts!

Happy Birthday Sparknut!
