2 emerged from the gloom, ready to celebrate and burn some calories.  Couple regulars doing their duty as Volunteer Sheriff’s Deputy and flying the friendly skies kept our #’s lower than normal.  Though we be few, we had mighty hearts, and with all the cardio, we needed every bit.

Preface:  March Madness continues with an homage to arguably THE greatest album on its 50-year release anniversary.  3/1/1973 was an important date in rock history, as Pink Floyd released their 8th album, Dark Side of the Moon.  Was on the Billboard 200 charts for a record 741 consecutive weeks…didn’t come off the charts until Def Leppard’s Hysteria was #1…14 years later.  Ultimately, DSotM has been on the charts for a record 969 weeks.  The 2nd most weeks on the charts?…768 weeks for Bob Marley’s Legend album, almost 4 years less…I rest my case…influential…broadly appreciated.  Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album – a cohesive collection of songs – with the general topic of losing your mind and the things that cause you to lose your mind.  There are many, many internet warriors that give their thoughts on the meaning of various aspects of the album.  My extremely simplified thoughts are below…would love to share a beer and hear your thoughts any time.

Also, no doobies were smoked during this workout.

Lots to do…let’s get at it by retrieving a block from the back playground

(Essentially, the album was played throughout the workout.  Brief breaks scheduled between songs for some editorial and personal reflection….and to catch our breath before the next PAINstation muahahaha…)

Speak to Me

Breathe (In the Air) – coupled these together…do what you want to do, but realize all your life will ever be is 1) smiles you give, 2) tears you’ll cry, 3) all you touch, and 4) all you see.  Experience(!) life.  Don’t watch others.  Don’t work yourself to death and then miss the reason why you were working in the first place….dig that hole, forget the sun…when at last the work is done, don’t sit down, time to dig another one (hole), race towards an early grave

*** WarmUp – SSH, windmills, squat pulses, toy soldiers, merkins

On the Run (instrumental)…we gonna run

*** LBH 5 burpees, LBH 4 burpees…3…2…1

Time – time can slip by without realizing it, until it’s too late…and then one day you find, 10 yrs have gotten behind you…don’t wait for others to tell you what to do, be intention, get it done.

*** 12/3/6/9 around the clock…Start at 12 o’clock in plank position: 10 merkins, 10 squats, 10×3 trifectas, 10 Freddie Mercs, hand walk around the clock to 3 o’clock…repeat-o at 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock as time/scalability allows

#CrowdPleaser!

The Great Gig in the Sky….worrying about what happens after death; heaven = GGintheSky

*** Suicide run, 5 lunge walks forward, turn around, 5 lunge walks back, repeat-o to end of song

I saw someone hypothesize the first half of the album is about life….1st breath at birth…heaven at death.

Not sure I’m all in on that, but there is merit, for sure….born, miss the best parts of life running the rat race, regrets when you run out of time, death.  Whether that was Pink Floyd’s exact intent doesn’t matter.  It’s a good warning of what can happen without intentionally managing life into a more meaningful existence.

Idk

Money – the pressures of society regarding money, selfishness, and greed, get it, get it, get it…never be content…”share it fairly, but don’t take a slice of my pie”

*** Colt 45’s, 25 squats, 30 WWI, repeat-o to end of song

Us and Them – insanity of war, either good/bad, black/white, have/not…at the end of the day, we are all just ordinary men fighting wars about money and possessions, so busy we can’t stop to help people

*** we don’t need no stinking division…partner required activities… wheelbarrows up p.lot + mosey back, heals to heaven push downs, piggyback rides up p.lot + mosey back

Any Colour You Like – the illusion of being in charge and having control and choice

*** Dippy Birds

Brain Damage – the impact of drugs, little bit of homage to one of the band’s founders, who tripped out on LSD all the time, quickly causing debilitating damage…and when the band you’re in starts playing different tunes, I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon (the irrelevant side, nobody ever sees it, you fade away)

*** skull crushers, hillbilly hops, seal jacks, repeat-0 to end of song

Eclipse – summation that everything you are — as much as it matters to you — doesn’t really matter

*** Freddie Merc’s, box cutters

Return blocks to the back

Reflection:  Psalm 73:26

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

No matter what drives you crazy, the sooner we stop relying on ourselves, and the sooner we look the God….the better off we will be.  Being content in what he provides.  Being intentional about learning our strengths and how to use them to build His kingdom.

Moleskine:

  • T-claps to Tonka for bearing with me on this tie-dyed workout. He was recently in Cabo for a couple weeks, so I didn’t feel to bad pushing him to the limit…hehe…as always, he was a true champ, pushing despite being tired.  He’s always inspirational; scaling but never quitting.
  • Surprise visit by ShakeWeight after finishing his run with TommyLee.
  • T-claps to anyone who may have already celebrated this album’s 50th anniversary…hopefully with a lava lamp at your side and incense burning nearby.
  • As the evenings warm up, I will likely have a garage door movie celebration.

As always, Q’ing was such an honor.

Cheers fellas
