Death Race 2000

Event Date

Feb 24, 2020

Nine racers and one bike came out for Momentum Monday for the Death Race 2000, which also coincided with the formal kickoff of Natty Week.  In a rather surprising turn of events, no pedestrians were injured during the race.

Death Race 2000

The Death Race 2000 loop is a ~0.8 mile loop when you take a right coming from the OL clubhouse parking onto Mountain Cove, take a left on Overlook Mountain and then a left on Overlook Cove.

There were three pain stations set up along the route highlighted in chalk. Do 10 reps of the exercise in chalk, and keep running the Death Race.  The one exercise done at the three separate stations were CDD, Mercans and Squats.

After the first escorted lap around the loop, do as many laps as you can on your own.  Some earlier finishers also did some abs at the starting point before the entire flock made it back to base.

  • In the year 2000, America is a totalitarian regime on the brink of collapse. The most popular sport in this dystopia is the Transcontinental Road Race, where teams earn points for logging the fastest time and for mowing over the most innocent pedestrians in the process. That year's competitors include Frankenstein (David Carradine), who is rumored to be more machine than man, and the tough-as-nails "Machine Gun" Joe Viterbo (Sylvester Stallone).

  • In a surprise to nobody, the Palmetto relay team that is currently in training led the pack

  • This was Q’s very first official Momentum Monday. While he has partaken in some of the later Monday starts on holiday weekends, he has ever posted on a Monday at 5:30 am.

  • While there really was some good momentum achieved today and a great start to the week, I shan’t be doing it again anytime soon

  • Overheard on the course:

    • Runner in passing lane: “One can really get into your thoughts when out here all alone on the course”

    • Walker in non-passing lane: “I’m just trying not to sh*t myself”

    • Runner in passing lane (to himself) – well that's something else to think about

  • Inspiration for today’s workout was borrowed liberally from Slow Roll. While Q did not post the last time the loop was run, Slow had previously mentioned it was one of his favorites. I regret to report that there was no barfing nor threat of barfing today though

  • If there was any mention of training runs that ended at a brewery (i.e., Beer Run?) during the Palmetto recruiting period it very well may have been a much different roster

  • It does pay to read the back-blasts. It also pays to bring a bike along for the Death Race 2000

  • While there was mention of the potential for earning bonus points/escalators for Natty Week without any specifics provided, it was determined today that there should be a demerit system that can also take away points. My Week, My Rules Bitchachos

  • Verbal warning was provided for counting out of turn in the CoT. While this did not rise to the level of a demerit, it was used as an effective illlustration for demerits.

  • Q admittedly manages to have fun in just about anything he does, but that was really fun today

  • Great work men!
