YHC showed up for his first running of the Fartlek after a Q swap with the former MQ. 8 other Pax joined on another beautiful May morning after being promised a wide range of miles and a clearly defined route. My left knee has been bothering me for a few weeks now anytime I’ve run over 3-4 miles, Dr. Pitstop dx’ed it as a little patella tendonitis, so it probably wasn’t the smartest to show up to try and Q a running workout – first lesson, don’t be afraid to ask someone else to pick up the Q if you’re not feeling up to it.
Turnpike helped me out with a suggestion for a shorter route. Pax were advised of the route – the 1km loop – and to get in between 3-4 laps depending on speed. Second lesson – the Q should always plan for more, even at a running workout, 45 minutes can be a long time with fast runners. After 4 laps, brought the runners in for some stretching before sending most of the runners back out for another few laps since there was still time. Closed out with some squats before attempting a squat time bomb and merkin time bomb (a novel exercise for some in the group!). And then Rocket shared the third lesson – you can always clipboard Q if you’re on IR. Telling the Pax what to do and not even having to do it yourself?! Brilliant. Looking forward to the next time I’m injured to try this one out.

- We got in somewhere between 2-5 miles as promised – I was told those of us who just did 4 laps got in 2.5.
- Thanks to all the runners who showed up for a less than well planned out Q. First time Q’ing a running workout so I clearly have room for improvement.
- Enjoy this weather while it lasts – maybe the mildest May I’ve ever experienced during my many years in NC.
- Force is really loving his new shoes – apparently footwear matters when you’re running distance.
- Frogger dropping a little politics post-run is nothing new, but keeping it local and asking about the governor and a local elected official in Meck! He knows I can’t resist talking local politics!
- Thanks to Turnpike for offering up the chance to lead this morning – and thanks to Enron for keeping this great AO going.
