We continued from where we left off last week,,, I know I didnt post the backblast from last week (is it too late). So to recap. Most people in a confrontation are overly concerned about the fist that is coming toward them. Yes, it is a concern. But how much easier would it be to be able to stop the punch before it gets close or even starts. Yes, you guessed it.. this is exactly what we practiced. Now, in order for someone to strike you they have to be able to move close enough while maintaining balance, mobility and position. Knowing this changes the focus of the initial attack and defense. We used the feet and hands as control measures. limiting the rotation of the body by controlling the hands while at the same time disrupting the direction, balance and mobility by controlling the legs. This can (and will) be used in both offensive and defensive situations. Practice is fairly straight forward if you stop the mind from getting in the way. If you focus too much on one or the other (arms or legs) the body forgets about the other. Both Chief and Motorboat proved to be fairly adept at this training and so we added the next part. We don't struggle with the attacker. When a clash of some sort occurs we control body parts and move directly to a strike during any transition. The natural insitnct is to grasp and hold on in an attempt to stop the attack. But this often fails and leads to a power struggle. Use the initial response, pause the attack and deflect into our own attack. We dont have to knock someones head off with each strike to win a confrontation. We learn to damage what is attacking us and disrupt body function with focused attacks, until we have a clear line to attack and stop the opponent.
One thing that occurs during training the body is the feeling of invigoration, and this is true when training or in battle. Chief brought this to our attention and it is very true. There is no other feeling that a person gets that compares to when the body is hit and battered in training or battle. For YHC it rewards the mind and body with the knowledge that it is good to be alive and able to do what this body is able to do. The bird does not show off when it flys,, it fulfills its intent. We all have gifts and talents that are meant to be used,, it is our job in life to find these gifts and talents and use them to fulfill our intent in life.
