For the past few months we have been focusing on drills, drills and more drills. Hand drills, foot drills, blocking drills, striking drills, movement drills,,,,, and now we start putting it all together. It seems simple enough,, just do what we have been doing but only at the same time as something else. Not such an easy task. Thinking of two things at once is difficult enough,,, but we are beginning to do three and four things at once. And we will do more. Once the techniques become reflexive this will not only become easy but will occur without much thought at all. Our mind gets in the way, we think of each move, the balance, the counters and the strikes and nothing seems to work properly. But eventually the specifics of each part become as natural as running and jumping. When we run, we dont think about the hand positions, the leg positions or the obstacles. If something gets in our way we just go around, or over, it without much thought to the the specific actions required to accomplish the task. Practice and repeatition will accomplish much of what is required, but the mind and body must be able to adapt to different conditions and make corrections based on experience and muscle memory. So we need to be exposed to as many different threats as possible. But dont let your mind get carried away. The opponenet only has a limited number of weapons at his disposal and can move in ways that are limited to what the body will allow. But that is another story all together. For now we will train our minds and bodies to do what we know in a natural manner and we will train to control their bodies at a later time.
Today we looked at the beginning part of the blocking and striking drills and we added the first part of the leg attack drills. As was expected,, it was a bit ackward at first. But once we allowed the body to do what it knows and stopped listening to what the mind was thinking,,, the drills became much easier. It is mazing to see the progress in men that want to become good at something. Fighting seems like an easy thing to do,, and it is,, but it is not so easy to do it succesfully. The four men that trained this morning have been the most consistent of the pax. And it certainly shows. The precsion and effectivness of the techniques is becoming apparant to not only me but to each of the men. Many have been practicing on their own and have been able to progress failry quickly. Contra has been preacticing the bone sharpening techniuqes and has had people comment on how "sharp" his bones are when using just mild force. Tailhook has advanced his fist form and Dimmak techniques to a quite impressive level. The amount of pain and damage is greatly enhanced by using this knowledge. Fingerlickinggood has quite impressive blocking and body movement and is demonstrating control over the opponents legs and movement. Motorboat seems to be putting fear into Fingerlickinggood with his advancing abilities, hand speed and striking ability. Each man has followed his desire to become proficient in the art and each is advancing in knowledge and ability. Soon we will be testing these skills in a more dramatic fashion….. yes we get to fight soon.
This will be interesting and of course,,, FUN.
Looking forward to receiving some bruises during the next few weeks.
Thank you for encouraging YHC to train with you fine men. I am happy to share this passion of mine with each of you.
