Get a Grip! – the Life of a Sand Farmer

Event Date

Feb 16, 2019

6 PAX fought back against the gloom and put in some great work at the Estate.  Luckily none were at my anniversary Q at the Sword on Monday so no one noticed the recycled workout model!  YHC being a merciful Q found some shelter from the rain and some toys (blocks & sandbags).  The Sandbag Farmers Carry (farmers carry with 2 sandbags) turned out to be a reoccuring theme which led to much mumble-chatter about the existance of said Sandbag Farmers.

Warmorama: short mosey over to our base of operations for the morning (under overhead canopy) with high knees, butt kickers and karioki.
                (everything x15 IC unless noted)
SSH, IST, Toy Soldier, The In-Offensive Root Vegetable Farmer (a.k.a. “Cotton-Pickers), slow windmill, calf stretching OYO.

The Thang: The PAX grabbed partners, blocks and some sandbags while YHC shared some lessons learned throughout the past year.  We learned that with our fellow PAX the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and that the little things are important, and they often add up to something greater, even if that isn’t immediately evident at the time.  And with that we learned:

                Lesson 1:
-Partner A: Squats w/ block OYO; Partner B: Farmer Carry w/ 2 sandbags to end of canopy & back; Switch; repeato.
-Mohamed Ali (Rocky Balboa w/ air punches) x20 IC
-Partner A: Shoulder press w/ block OYO; Partner B: lunge walk to end of canopy/back; Switch
                                – Mohamed Ali x20 IC, SSH x20 IC
Partner A: Thrusters (squat to press w/ block) OYO; Partner B: Sandbag farmers carry; switch
                                – Chuck Norris (air roundhouse kicks) x20 IC; SSH x20 IC; jump squats x5 OYO

                Lesson 2:
                                – Partner A: Deadlifts OYO; Partner B: farmers carry; switch; Repeato (by popular demand)
                                – Partner A: Curls OYO; Partner B: slow side shuffle; switch
                                – Mohamed Ali x20 IC
                                – Partner A: Shoulder Press OYO; Partner B: farmers carry
                                – Chuck Norris x20 IC; SSH x20 IC
                                – Partner A: Skull Crushers OYO; Partner B: Side Shuffle
                                – Mohamed Alix20 IC; SSH x20 IC
–by this time PAX are sensing the bigger picture–
Partner A: Eight Count Burners; Partner B: Farmers Carry; switch; Repeato

                Freestyle:
                                – Partner A: lawn mowers right hand OYO; Partner B: Farmers Carry
                                – Partner A: lawn mowers left hand OYO; Partner B: Farmers Carry
                                – Side to side hops x15 OYO; Front to back hops x15 OYO; Repeato
                                – Block ‘Mericans left hand x8 IC
                                – Mohamed Ali
                                – Block ‘Mericans right hand x10 IC (yup YHC threw in some extra, definitely on purpose and not a counting mistake).

Mary: we got a little creative to stay dry
                                –  Crunchy Frog sitting on block
                                –  Freddie Mercury on block
                                –  Stretching: downward dog on block; hamstring stretch (touching block to look manly of course); Ballerina side stretch (nothing manly about that)

A few brave PAX went for extra credit and farmer carried blocks and sandbags back down to their home, the less ambitious (some may say wiser?) PAX just carried over to YHC’s car.  COT under cover, anouncements were Polar Bear (estate will converge next week) and Operation Sweet Tooth.

Moleskin:
“Back to Sandbag Farmers Carry” quickly became the slogan of the workout, and Pax worked on their grip strength as we pondered the existence of sand farmers.
I took the Q on short notice (hope you get better soon Landshark!) and didn’t know what turnout we would get with the weather forecast, but big thanks to the PAX who didn’t let a little rain scare them off and made it out to rage against the Gloom.
