It’s a BRICKMAS Miracle

Many moons ago – I attended my first Brickmas Tree led by BagBoy.  I’ve done several since that first time – and I’ve also taken it to Pittsburgh and Q’d a Brickmas workout that the Yinzer PAX have repeated over the years.  According to BagBoy – the official Brickmas takes an hour and two minutes.  The plan was to skip some content to hit 45 minutes, while still getting exposure to all that the Brickmas has to offer.

With the assumption that all PAX have been to at least one Brickmas – I gave a quick refresher including a note on the cadence.  Shake made sure to ignore the instructions and ask repeated questions throughout the workout.  I think he was clear on the directions – he was just creating breaks for the PAX with his mumblechatter questions.

I believe all exercises were original Brickmas fare – with the exception of the Nutcrackers.  I was at an STP led workout in Davidson recently and he did the Nutcracker.  Given the use of bricks and the holiday themed name – I decided to incorporate the Nutcracker.

Grab 2 bricks and head to the shovel flag for the pledge.

No time for Warm-o-rama.  PAX take a lap around the concession stand as YHC set up the speaker for Christmas tunes.

THE THANG – based on the 12 Days of Christmas – our true love gave us an exercise for each day.  Each day brings a new exercise followed by the previous days – and so on.  Done in cadence – reps start at 5 on Day 1 and go up 5 each day.

Day 1 – 5 Burpees OYO – Bricks Optional

Day 2 – 10 Mericans

Day 3 – 15 Low Flutters with Brick Chest Presses (Here’s the first example of problematic cadence.  To get to 15 total reps the IC count stopped at 7 1/2.  1-2-3-SIX, 1-2-3-SEVEN, AND HALT.  The AND HALT gives us the 15th rep, and it gave Shake fodder for mumblechatter throughout the workout. “I don’t get it.  How does the math work? What is AND HALT? Aren’t you supposed to announce the days?”)

Day 4 – 20 Dips

Day 5 – 25 Nutcrackers: Start with Bricks above your head.  Alternating lunges touching the bricks between your legs each rep – hence nutcracker.  Omega suggested we start with opposite legs each time we did this exercise to remain symmetric.

Day 6 – 30 Squats

Day 7 – 1 minute plank

Day 8 – 40 Curls with People’s Chair

Day 9 – 45 Mason Twists

Day 10 – 50 SSH

Day 11 – 55 LBCs

Day 12 – 60 Alternating Lunges

In the interest of time – I think we did about 10 full days.  We skipped ahead at the end so we could get a taste of all of the exercises – and Day 12 was cut to about half of the exercises so we could end close to on time, in synch with the end of the best Christmas song of all time: Carrie Underwood’s O Holy Night.

CANDY CANE MOLESKINE

  • Thanks to BagBoy for creating the Brickmas Tree – the yuletide legacy goes on.
  • As I write this recap – I’m feeling some impact of the workout – shoulders and legs mainly.  Yesterday’s 8 hour car ride didn’t help with recovery.  I hope several of you got the full monty and went to Bedrock for Bagboy’s full Brickmas this morning.
  • Counting Blessings for 2023 – as with every year – F3 and my brothers are right near the top of the list.   Especially thankful for the other 2/3’s of the Three Headed Master Q of The General – Deep Dish and Jazz Hands.
  • Merry Brickmas to All and to All a Good Night……

Peace,
