It’s Not the Size of the Rope That Matters (#NWSS)

AO

When I signed up to lead at Berean, I had no idea we’d have a relapse of March-like temperatures. The plan was to test out a double helix circuit, but with only 4 in attendance — and a fair certainty that it would take too long to explain what a double helix is — YHC modified the plan. When we started at 0515, it was 45° with a threesome. But by the time we ended, there would be a foursome with plenty of steam in the air.

HIT IT HARD

YHC wanted something different for COP and offered up Forward Straddle Hops, Abe Vigodas, Hillbillies, Dwight Schrutes, and Mountain Climbers. Caesar joined a little late and when he was offered a pick for his warmup exercise, he chose SSH.

Next we grabbed some toys from the back of the Q’s truck. We would only need 3 and we went with a 30# kettlebell, a 25# slam ball and a long, black rope. This would be the first time I shared it with other men since I was a bit self-conscious about it not having the same girth as the one The Force often pulls out. We set up in one “lane” of the parking lot in front of Total Wine and assigned exercises for each station.

Round One

  • Rope: Aternating Waves
  • Ball: Overhead Slam
  • Bell: Skull Crushers

Round Two

  • Rope: Snakes
  • Ball: Over the Back
  • Bell: Chest Press

Round Three:

  • Calf Raises
  • Ball: WWII Situps
  • Bell: Lawn Mowers

We completed 2 sets of each round with the 4th man acting as timer by running around the parking lot while the rest of us did AMRAP at a station before advancing to the next station and eventually to runner. Following the 3rd set we had just enough time to stretch our tight calves with Downward Dog which we followed up with LBCs, Flutter Kicks and Low Dollys. One perfect burpee was called to wrap up the workout and return the toys to the truck.

SOFT MOLESKIN

  • YHC wasn’t sure if Bel-Air would remember the time and location, but he was the sitting alone in the parking lot when I arrived
  • It’s always a fun time when 9-Lives joins, although he got the short end of the stick between rounds 1 and 2 when he had back to back runs
  • Caesar confessed that this was the best 35 minute workout he’s ever attended
  • Possum joined us for coffee following a Fireball ruck this morning
  • 9-Lives shared pics from the MAFFS Light in 2016. I think I was in better shape back then.
  • Bel-Air had a thought-provoking question about how we find the right fit for our faith
