Last House on the Left

HOUSE OF CARDS

When I originally offered to Q Wilderness back in December, I figured I’d do some iteration of the Ruff as I had done in the past. But as the 17th drew near I realized I was not eager to run a long distance. Then Landshark went and ran the Ruff on the 10th and I was forced to come up with something different. Strangely, with the basketball court out of commission, it felt like the AO was lacking when in fact very few workouts here involve the court. Instead, I pulled out that overly priced deck of F3 cards and checked Google to see if I could come up with something original and exciting. I think I succeeded on one of those goals.

I have no idea why I started counting houses on Google Maps, but when I realized there were 13 of them fairly close together along Chaddsley Dr — a relatively flat road — I contrived a way to use the deck of cards so that we would run along the road based on the draw of each card.

At 0510 we began a slow mosey to Queen’s Corner for a brief warmup:

  • SSH x20 IC
  • Carrot Puller x10 IC

Then we did quadrophelia up the hill to the rock pile before walking over to the round-about for instruction. The plan was fairly simple: draw the top card from a shuffled deck and call out the exercise on it. Pax would run to the nth mailbox (driveway) matching the number on the card (Ace = 1, Face Cards = 11-13), then complete the card number +10 (single count) of the given exercise and return to the starting point. The lead men would plank until the six returned.

As luck would have it, no face cards were pulled until the very end so we never actually made it to the last house on the left. Even better, no one drew the burpee card (although when the low plank was drawn, Travolta was kind enough to be our timer by completing 16 blastoff burpees).

With about 10 minutes to spare, we picked up the cards and ran Indian style (the right way!) back to the clubhouse where we did Jane Fonda x20 IC on each leg before recovering for the morning. Following a few announcements, YHC prayed us out then some of us reconvened at Starbucks for some quality 2nd F.

NOT PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK

  • I was first to arrive and was convinced no one was going to show, but with a minute to spare, 14 men appeared out of the gloom to keep me warm. Always appreciate F3 for the comraderie!
  • I had not met Heisman prior to this morning, but I assume he’s a smart one as he returned to his car for gloves before commencing the workout (now he just needs to register on site)
  • Pleased as punch to see Etch and Peaches join me this morning. YHC gets tired of seeing the same faces every Thursday at the pool
  • Most men heeded the PB by having something bright on so that cars would see us. And there were several times that came in handy
  • YHC said to stop at Rock Pile, but never mentioned anything about grabbing a rock
  • Travolta continues to beast the workouts. I likened him to Uncle Rico who I think comes to Mighty Jungle for his “2nd F workouts” after a tough week of Blenders and Dragon Slayers
  • YHC admits to checking first 3 cards in deck beforehand to ensure we would not start with burpees
  • YHC then had the pax draw following cards so any bad exercise would not be my fault!
  • Thanks to 9-Lives for assisting with the six this morning. I think Ultraman often ran back also

RAISE THE ANTE

There are several events coming up. Be sure to check the preblasts and/or calendar so that you don’t miss out!

  • January 23rd: HDHH at Suffolk Punch where an F3-branded beer will make its debut
  • February 2nd: 5-year anniversary at Mighty Jungle. Not offically a convergence, but the more the merrier
  • February 9th: F3 Dads at Mighty Jungle
  • February 23rd: Polar Bear returns for its 4th (?) time. Normally it’s on Super Bowl weekend but YHC stole that weekend for the Jungle anniversary party
