Let It Rain

In theory, we all love the rough weather workout – it is the one you look back on more fondly.  The hard rain, soaking wet, lying in the road with the water running through you.  Therefore, sometimes, you just need some toughening up.

We arrived to a dry-ish morning, and as the stretching was in full gear, as much as it ever is, the clouds opened up.  The immediate comments to YHC was the desire to have this workout under the cover at the concession stand – no comment, but no dice.  By the time 5:30 hit, most were soggy.

Pledge:

First, as always, a very short mosey to the flag for the pledge of allegiance.

Warm-o-rama:

Mosey to the circle:

As a birthday workout, you want to have something hit your number and my original idea was 53 burpees.  But, nobody wants that – I know I didn’t.  So how about if I break it to the PAX as 20 burpees, catch your breath, 15 burpees, then 10, then 5, then 3.  That would provide an insulation against the cold wet rain.  Meh.

  • 53 SSH’s (IC)

  • 10 windmills (IC)

  • 15 IST’s (IC)

Thang:

No escaping it now, time to get wet, so on the ground for Merkins/WW2 sit-ups ladder (called the transition):

  • 5 Merkins, 5 WWII Sit-ups

  • 10 Merkins, 10 WWII Sit-ups

  • 15 Merkins, 15 WWII Sit-ups

  • 10 Merkins, 10 WWII Sit-ups

  • 5 Merkins, 5 WWII Sit-ups

The WW2 sit-ups sealed it for me – shirt and pants soaked to the bone.  My hope was everyone else was in the same boat.   During the next exercise, the 1st sprint, the shorts were half way down my legs.

Birthday Moleskin:

  • It was not an iPhone kind of a day so names were not recorded – 15 hardened men, some properly, some not properly dressed, including one FNG wearing a mostly cotton winter coat: some things you can only learn by doing and correcting.

  • Definitely, a workout you look back on fondly. As I write this, fun workout!Wringing my shirt out after each set of burpees, or your clothes weighing more, not as much.

  • Thanks to The Geek for letting me lead these excellent men!

  • Also, many thanks to Mini Me for EH’ing me 3+ years ago at a Mt. Zion “Journey” men’s breakfast. He is such a dreamy guy and I’m just so darn glad he brought me to this group of men.If you feel the same – either that mini me is dreamy or – that you are thankful for the brother who EH’d you, spread the work.Jolly Roger said it best that someone out there is praying for this and they won’t know unless you tell them.Someday YOU might be dreamy.
