I knew it was going to be cold, and was seriously considering pulling the coffee card, but got a text from Chilly Willy the night before asking me what the plan was and knew I had at least one HC, so I decided to brave the temps and recruit some more boatgusters to keep me company.
5:30 rolls around and pleasantly surprised to see we got a crew of 6 ready to get some hills in. We get started immediately. No time to waste around and needed to get our blood flowing asap to build the body warmth.
Warm up with some SSH’s and Hillbillies then run to the top of the parking lot by Blythe elementary where an additional pax rolls in to join us. 7 strong, let’s get some hills in.
We run down Beatties Ford Road to the entrance of Colonial Gardens neighborhood to do some hill sprint suicides up colonial garden Drive. Plan was:
- Run to first street – 5 pushups, run back down hill and do 5 pushups at the bottom as well
*Couldn’t run all the way down to bottom because a section of the road had frozen over. Best to just miss that and avoid injury*
- Run to second street – 5 pushups at top, run down, 5 pushups at bottom
- Run to third street – 5 pushups at top, 5 at bottom
- Run to fourth street – 5 pushups at top, 5 at bottom
We regrouped, and crossed the street to then ran together down Bud Henderson Rd and back up as an Indian Run or fartlek (not sure what the appropriate terminology is).
Performed some slow squats in cadence at the corner of Bud Henderson and Beatties Ford and then made our way back to the launch point.
Total of 4 miles in 18 degree weather. Not too shabby a way to start off your day.
Thanks to all the pax who showed up and didn’t let the cold deter them from getting out to push themselves. They are all the better for it.
No Mary. Too cold. Quick COT with prayer and back to our cars for the warmth.
Thanks Stray for the opportunity to lead and see you all in the gloom.
In Him,
Freddy Rivera (AM-PM)
