On a cool, misty morning at Fartlek, here is roughly what went down:
04xx: Garcia runs from his house to the AO. Taper? He doesn't really know what that means.
0510: Disclaimer given, and route described. The "base route" was roughly 4.1 miles, and options were given to add more mileage because most PAX were looking for ~6 miles. Cobains for the Q-Fail there but the Wilderness locals helped with some good options.
The Thing:
- Exit right from the Wynfield Forrest Clubhouse onto Hugh Torance Pkwy, right at the round-a-bout, right onto Ranson Rd, right onto Gilead for a short stretch, then right onto Wynfield Creek Pkwy back to the AO.
- That's it, that's the Tweet. *shrug*
- But some added 1-2 miles either via the greenway or an out an back past Grand Oak Elementary.
- Many ran today as follows: 2 mile warm-up, 3 miles at "Marathon Pace", cool down.
Moleskin:
- Ultraman will be pacing folks at the Charlotte Marathon and Die Hard will run the first half with him. T-Claps men for giving back to the running community. Can't imagine a more calming influence than Ultraman when the going gets tough in Charlotte during the hilly second half.
- Jorel is not running Charlotte this year…but it seems like his arm might be twisted?
- Royale appeared just seconds after we departed. Luckily the route was a "TP proof" easy route and he found us. Royale is looking for sponshorship to run the Charlotte Half Marathon, whose prices exceed $10 per mile by the way! If you are willing to sponsor this young man, he would be grateful. We also suggested he could pace the Half and get free race entry, but agreed his splits may not be conducive to pacing new runners.
- After Royale joined us, YHC said something like "So we have 8 PAX now, correct?" to which some pranksters suggested they were only worried about YHC getting back. LOL.
- Tagless was flying today. Good push buddy.
- Oh my, someone call 9-1-1. Garica is about to murder the Richmond Marathon. Thanks for waiting for Optimus and YHC on the way back today.
- Optimus, thanks as always for the push today and for your coaching throughout our training cycle. It's been awesome.
- Die Hard, thanks for letting me lead today. It was a pleasure.
We prayed for the safety of our Service Men and Women, both home and abroad.
We also prayed for mental strength for everyone competing this weekend in Richmond and Charlotte. It is sure to be a tough test.
