Modified Card’s Run and Repeat – Kamikaze at Fallout

AO

About a week and a half ago, Cardinal in Knoxville was doing his VQ, which included 100 burpees as part of the Make America Burpee Again challenge (100 burpees a day every day in January).  At burpee 5, he collapsed and he later passed away.  You can read his story here, and learn that he was 36 years old, father of two young kids, and husband.  This story hit me hard as a father of three young kids, as I know it did to so many, so I wanted to do something to honor Cardinal and remind us to live every day to the fullest because we never know when it will end.  As I went through the workout, cold, freezing, and tired, I thought about my two boys, my baby girl, and my wife and how I can be a better dad and husband to help get me through the tough workout, and I tried to encourage the Pax to do the same throughout.

“There is a day that I will no longer be able to do this: today is not that day.”

Warm-o-rama:

10 side straddle hops

10 ISTs

10 long snappers

Workout:

“Card’s Run and Repeat” within the Kamikaze framework (a Fallout regular)

Cardinal’s workout was pretty similar to the Kamikaze workout, so I modified to make it fit.  This is what is looked like:

There are three soccer fields beside one another in a row, with the long side of the fields running parallel to each other, and separated by a steep hill.  We run across the first soccer field, do exercise 1, and then back to the start for a brief prayer in honor of Cardinal and to remind us to focus on our families and God as we go through the workout.  Then we run across the soccer field again, do exercise 1, run up the hill to the 2nd field, do exercise 2, then back down the hill to do exercise 1 again, and back to the start, and so on.

Exercises:

  1. 5 burpees
  2. 10 WW2s
  3. 5 burpees
  4. 10 WW2s
  5. 5 burpees
  6. We were running short on time and burpees so we only did the burpees for the last round

Total burpees: 100

We moseyed back to the start for some Mary:

10 boxcutters IC

10 LBCs

COT:

Announcements about Polar Bear and Daytona 500 coming up soon.  Polar Bear sounds like a lot of fun – Daytona 500 does not.

Prayers for a Bennett in Peart Plus’ class and Bella, friend of Bob Ross’ family, as well as for Cardinal’s family, all F3 families, kids, and marriages.

Moleskin:

In the name-o-rama, I announced myself as Gambini, but it was only because I am becoming him (both went to State, both became lawyers, both drive Tacoma’s, both love the Lake Norman Citizen paper – we are practically the same person).  Cobra did a warmup run beforehand, so much that his windows froze over again – great work today!  Bob Ross and Peart Plus ignored the burpee pre-blast and were elated about the 100 burpees (Bob Ross promised no burpees at Mighty Oak tomorrow), but both still pushed hard through all of them.

I appreciate the opportunity to lead and for the men who followed.
