9 pax trekked in the drizzle to meet for delicious $2 tacos at uptown Que Onda, because that's what the pax do on Tuesdays. Even when it's raining.
It had been a while since the uptown pax had hit Que Onda, which is unusual, as the pax all agree, it is one of the best #TacoTuesday joints around. (Ziploc might disagree with that after today……)
There are several things that make Que Onda great. One is the complimentary chips/salsa. Speaking of, I think we need to adopt the Del Norte pax tradition of having a taco #Standard. Another is the $2 tacos. There are technically 5 options, but really only 4, as one of them is their "market veggie" taco, which is not a thing. But the 4 are pretty tasty. And, of course, the best thing about QO, in YHC's opinion, is the Nacho Cheese of Death (NCOD), hands down the tastiest taco condiment around. Jaws was checking old backblasts to try to decide which tacos to order, and commented that YHC's last QO backblast included four full paragraphs about the NCOD, so I'm going to try to contain myself this time.
Today, the pax were joined for the first time by both Squiggy, who now works uptown and should be a regular going forward, and Clark, who was making a rare appearance in the uptown for some work, but was able to break away and crush some tacos with us. Welcome, gents!
OK, some quick highlights (or low-lights) from today:
- For the first time, our tacos were not served with ramekins of randomly assigned sauces. YHC wasn't leaving without some NCOD, and so I specifically asked our waiter for some. He brought a nice big bowl of it. YHC applied it liberally, and it was delicious. Mona Lisa, Ziploc, LittleFinger, and Squiggy all partook as well. OK, so I'm already having trouble containing myself.
- Ziploc ordered at the same time as the rest of the pax, but had to wait a full 20 minutes longer for his order to arrive. He mentioned this to our waiter several times. At some point, the waiter stopped making eye contact with him. It was like he had it in for Zippy. Even Mona Lisa received his tacos before Ziploc, despite arriving 20 minutes later and ordering three times as many tacos. Did you beat that guy down at one of your Mustang Q's, Ziploc?
- Tagless, Ramrod, and Little Finger were at the opposite end of the table from YHC. I hardly got to chat with them, but after we departed, Ramrod grabbed a Bird scooter and drove several blocks in the wrong direction just to catch up some with YHC and Clark. He also demonstrated some of his scooter moves. Nice!
OK, that's all I've got for now. Fill in what I missed below. NCOD FTW.
