31 hard-chargers sallied forth on a day of honor, remembrance and reflection on the 20th annivesary of 9-11-01.
The THANG:
Mosey to the Veteran's Monument where we did exercises to counts of 20 to honor veterans of the GWOT, and to recongnize the 20 years since 9-11. For many veterans the Global War on Terror has been the entirety of their career.
Mosey to the fire station and the 9-11 memorial (which has the phrase "Never Forget" in dozens of languages and a girder from the World Trade Center). We did a partner dora to the count of 78 to honor first responders, and recongnize that some of the firefighters fought their way to the 78th floor of the WTC
Mosey to the Mt. Zion Church cemetery to honor the civilians from 9-11. We did a dora to 93 to recongize the heroes of Flight 93.
Mosey to the street for "The 9-11".
Mosey back to launch.
Fin.
Today we endeavored to "Never Forget."
"Never Forget" does not mean we live with a never-ending quest for vengance. In fact, we are called to forgiveness.
"Never Forget" means to remain vigilant and to recognize that there are people in this world with twisted values and hatred. "Never Forget" means to never forget the people who rose, and continue to rise, to stand against evil.
We did our best to honor those folks today.
We were able to recall where we were that day. Many were just going about their daily routine in work and school, and those routines came to a screeching halt. Some were called to immediate duty. Some watched within blocks of the attacks. Some were quite literally connected with folks who would not survive that day. Some weren't even born yet.
All of our lives were changed that day. We are left here to do our best to move forward and continue to make positive impact, and do what we can to prevent days like that in the future. We are left to never forget, and ensure future generations never forget. To quote a great American hero, and toward those noble ends YHC says, "Let's roll."
Pax tibi,
GG
