5 emerged from the gloom, starting to think about football season, starting to long for the cooler mornings. Soon brother. Soon. Until then, we treated ourselves with a veritable potpourri of pain, sweat, and fatigue. A new and shiny thing awaited. Muscles became swole. Laughter surrounded us in between the cursing of the Q. Here's how it went down…

Reflection:
Earlier this week, one of our sites installed a pump on a pond to reduce county water usage. When they turned the massive pump on, the local ducks were very interested and swam over to see what was going. New thing…so shiny…and it makes noise…must check it out.
As they swam closer to check out the new shiny thing that captured their attention, the intake of the pump(!) started to pull them closer. At first, the ducks turned around and tried to paddle away, but the pump flow was too great and they were still being pulled back to the intake. Finally the ducks realized what was happening and pulled evasive maneuvers to fly away.
Hmmm, does anyone hear ever see new shiny things and swim towards them to see what it's about?
Do you ever realize the new shiny thing poses some danger and turn around, only to realize you are still being pulled towards the danger?
Have you ever had to take evasive maneuvers to finally escape the dangers of something new and shiny?
Well, maybe instead of swimming towards new and shiny things, maybe we need to evaluate things against God's truth and guidance?
Psalm 119: 137-144
"137 You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are right.
138 The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy.
139 My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words.
140 Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them.
141 Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.
143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight.
144 Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live.
