Newer is Better… Maybe

19x Hard Chargers showed up to take on the NEW and IMPROVED (debatable) 1st Thursday Challenge at the Wilderness.

Warm-A-Rama

Mosey over to the new Basketball court.  Music was already playing, the Pax approved.

The Thang

The old 1st Thursday challeng had 7x sets, counting down from 21x reps down to the 3, so: 21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, and 3 is seven sets, dropping 3 reps each set.  With the new Challenge, we start at 7x reps and GO UP 1x rep each set, with a goal of getting to the 15x rep set which is completing the 14x rep set, for a total of 8 sets.  So in the new Challenge, you have a little less running but end up doing one more set.

It went something like this:

7x CDDs at Basketball Court

7 x Low Flutters at the Court

7x Jump Squats at the elbow of the parking lot

7x Pull Ups at Playground

7x Dips at the benches at the Playground

7x Walking Lunges on way back to the basketball court

Repeat, going UP one rep on all exercises the next set.

Mary

Once YHC completed the 14x rep set, called it for 7 minutes of Mary.

No Big Black rope was present, PAX were not happy.

Dying Cockroach x15ic for The Force as a tribute to the orginal Challenge

Touch them Heels x15ic

Dot the I x15ic for Toxic, who doesn't do the W

J Lo x15ic for Amen

Shoulder Touch Merkins x10ic for Snake Eyes (PAX starting to see a pattern and claimed I am "stealing" from the ones I am trying to give tribute to, I guess it's in the eye of the beholder)

COT, YHC breaks down thinking about his dad who passed away last week.  Sorry about that, will try to compartmentalize better next time.

The Sweaty Moleskin

YHC didn't advertise it as such, but this workout was dedicated to his father who passed away at 71 years old, 0645ET, May 29, 2019.  He was loved and will be missed, but had a long battle with heart disease and is now at rest and free of pain.   Thank you to all who came out.

YHC had not been to a workout that counted up in reps, and thought it would be challenging and something different.  Basically, the harder and faster the PAX completes one set, he is rewarded by an even harder set the next go around.  It can be daunting and discouraging, but that is the Challenge.  Push yourself harder to be rewarded by an even harder set/workout?  Or slack off, slow down, and take it easy?  It's you versus you.

Feel free to comment below and let me know your opinions on if we should continue with this challenge, or should YHC, as MQ, come up with something better?  Thanks to Jorel who gave his approval running by during the 5th or 6th set, at least 1 pax liked it!   I may move the basketball court portion to the tennis courts or end of the parking lot, since running in the grass from the sidewalk to the court may kill the grass.  We lost the sidewalk to the court in the remodeling.

Also, missed a few names.  My BT speaker mic was on during name-a-rama so it captured the names instead of my phone… 20-40 feet away.  Q fail.  Must be new here.

Nice job to Ultraman and Toxic (and others?) for completing the most sets, I believe they got to 15x reps.  Come out next month to meet the Challenge and see if you can hit 16.

TG sends,

Aye
