WARM-A-THANG-A-MOLESKINE-A-NAME-A-RAMA

First to roll up was Discraft, who came all the way from Mooresville to show us how he got his name (it’s a  brand for Ultimate discs). Then Waffle House arrived, leaving us needing at least one more to reach the minimum. We crossed our fingers and our wish came true in spades when Hoodie rolled in with an FNG (Scott?), Jaws, Joker (2.0), and Yellow Card (2.0). That brought us to a respectable 8, but Mr. Holland bounced in at the last minute to make it 9.

Circling up at center field for warm-ups designed to reduce injuries during Ultimate, Joker and Yellow Card were both awesome at leading exercises. (Future Q alert!) Discraft edumicated us about the rules of Ultimate, but we qualified it all by invoking the “F3 Rule of Rules,” which means that rules are enforced rarely and loosely, with fun the primary objective.

2.0s Joker and Yellow Card were self-appointed captains, so Joker wisely picked Discraft for his first choice. After that, it seems it was a popularity contest, so naturally I was one of the last to be chosen.

With teams established, we prepared for the first “pull” (kickoff throw), but a man with two girls walked on the field, and YHC presumed they were there to kick us off because of a soccer game or something. But miracle of miracles, it was Sensei and he was here to play! So that brought us up to 12, with confident little Pickle going to Joker/Discraft’s side and older sister Penelope and dad Sensei coming with us to team Yellow Card.

Contrary to expectations, the Yellow Card team took the first three goals, but Joker et al rallied and it became a ping-pong match with the final score tied at 5-5. Mr. Holland got defensive MVP (although he excelled at everything), and we’ll give Discraft the offensive MVP.

The Hustle Award goes to Joker, who found the end zone so often we thought he was trying to homestead it! Yellow Card, Pickle, and Penelope all get the good sportsmanship awards for top-notch performances and not a single complaint.

Grumblechatter was heard about the cardio requirements of this awesome game, which means we were on the right track. Anytime you can have fun and improve your health at the same time, that’s a win! Somebody tracked over 2 miles of mostly sprinting, so that’s not nuthin’!

Metallica and Kid Rock joined us for the COT after putting in six miles that involved no throwing at all.

Thanks to all who showed up, especially kotter Sensei, newbie Discraft, the 2.0s, and my most consistent BRP regular Waffle House.
